Harry and Hermione were the only two in the common room that afternoon. Ron had gone off to practice his Quidditch. With George and Fred gone, there was no strange concoctions around for Hermione to scold people about, although there were still shipments of new things for them to us against Professor Umbridge. It was one of the few times he’d seen Hermione go against a professor. When they were around their friends, she was just plain ole Hermione, the slightly bossy know it all. She often planned their schemes.
But here, when it was just the two of them, the masks came off. She leaned against him, and he had his arm around and they stared into the fire. She was so unsure of everything going on. Out defiance like this against Umbridge was right she knew that, but it still felt wrong to her. She had confessed that to him weeks ago. She looked up at him, catching him staring at her. He blushed and turned his head away slightly.
He turned back to ask her something, and she was moving to adjust her position. It timed perfectly for an accidental kiss. It wasn’t something either of them planned, but it felt so right that they both went with it. They’d been falling in love, they both knew it, even when they tried to hide it. Pulling back finally, he saw the smile on her face, and felt the one on his. Maybe they should stop fighting it.
