After Oliver’s encounter with Zod’s heat vision, he was ushered quietly to a plastic surgeon in California. With the cover story of a former lover scorned, Oliver was given treatment for his unfortunate tattoo. When he came back to Metropolis, he was secluded in his penthouse basically waiting for his skin to heal. They explained to Lois and Clark that it was easier for Chloe to stay with Oliver to take care of him. After all, he never had to make up some cover story with her. But the truth was that though a professional nurse was trained, Chloe taking care of Oliver just felt right.
But eventually real life and their responsibilities interrupted their time together. The first time she left him alone was four days after his comeback.
“So I’m going to leave you alone for a couple hours and go in to Watchtower.”
Oliver came up onto his elbows to watch her move around the bedroom. She reached into her drawer to pull out her clothes. She claimed the drawer was temporary fix for the duration of her stay with him and that he would have to live with his socks crammed beside his underwear. But in truth he knew he would never ask her to move her things out. And he genuinely hoped that she never would.
“You are going to leave me alone?”
She glanced back at him through the mirror on the bureau. “Yes. You are going to take your medication therefore be dead to the world for approximately five hours.” she arched her eyebrow as if to dare him to contradict her.
Instead he simply questioned “is it that time again?”
She nodded in affirmation. “It is. And if you happen to wake up, I left you the remote for the television, your laptop in case you want to do some QI work, some paper for arrow designing.” She paused and looked at him sternly as she moved to her side of the bed to pick up her earrings. “Emil said that you can leave the bed. But you know that you can’t sweat so exercise is absolutely out of the question. But I suppose you can clean the arrow gear. Polish your bow or something.” She finished slipping on her earrings and then realized what her sentence sounded like.
Oliver would not let something like that go and quipped easily “That’s what I have you for.”
She playfully slapped him on his shoulder.
“Kidding! You are all sorts of amazing in many many different ways.” He titled his head and smiled at her. “This is a particularly interesting side to you.”
She looked at him confused. “Meaning?”
“Nurse Chloe?” he was delighted by a visual classic. “Hey were you a candy striper before we met? Maybe you have a uniform hiding in your closet?”
“What do you think Oliver?”
He shrugged. “Well I’m choosing keep my mind open to all possibilities.”
“Alright smart guy. You thinking about me as a nurse will keep you occupied until the meds kick in. Here.” she handed him some pills and a glass of water. After he completed his task, she kissed the corner of his mouth. He slid down in the bed and opened his mouth to say something.
Chloe interrupted him “I’ll stay until you are sleeping.”
“Good.” He said gratefully.
She stroked his hair and asked “so what do you want for dinner?”
He looked at her “is there even another option? We have been eating the same thing every Tuesday night since…. Ummm for months.” He recovered after his verbal fumble.
She grinned. Tuesdays were her night for picking dinner.“I just wanted to give you the option of change. It could be fun.” She finished so unenthusiastically that he didn’t have the heart to take her up on it.
“Didn’t you get the memo? Everything is fun when it’s you and me.” he said. Her heart melted a little bit at his sweet words. He interrupted the moment by yawning.
“Go to sleep Ollie. I’ll bring home Louie’s on my way back.”
“Alright. Sounds good to me.” Neither of them commented on her use of the word home.
She kissed his temple easily as he shut his eyes. “I’ll see you in a couple hours, Romeo.”
She was almost out the door when he called her. “Hey Chloe.”
“Yea Ollie?”
“You were never a candy striper. The way you help people... the way you always help people has been through finding the truth and fighting injustice on the frontlines.”
She confirmed. “I was never a candy striper.”
“I knew it.” He said triumphantly although it was dimmed slightly by his drowsiness.
“I didn’t doubt you would.”
