It was a real gully washer out there. Amy Hunter stood gazing out the "kitchen" window of Parallel Estate. She'd never been a huge fan of the rain or really the outdoorsy type. So some would say it was quite ironic that Amy found herself married into a family that literally had trees and a giant lake right smack dab in the middle of their living room. It had been odd at first, she admitted, but living like this was certainly growing on her. The family itself was incredible, and every single one of them had gone out of their way to make her feel completely welcome.
She set one of the plates she was washing aside. They were an odd bunch though..For example..What on earth was Stella doing? Amy nearly dropped the next cup she picked up as a flash of lightening split the sky. And was her sister in-law disturbed at all? Nope. There she was standing right out in the middle of the back garden with two pillows in her hands getting drenched from head to toe with the rain. Amy thought that for sure as another loud roll of thunder shook the house that the Terrano girl would have the good sense to come back inside. However, she just stood there with a smile on her face. Eventually, after having what appeared to be a deep internal conversation with herself, the alien woman began to whack a nearby tree with a pillow.
Curious now, Amy opened the back door and called out above the rain, "Stella, what on simnation are you doing out here?"
Stella completely unperturbed said, "Having a pillow fight Mrs. Amy."
"In this downpour?"
Stella turned around and smiled shyly. "I suppose I do like quite silly out here. But on my world it doesn't rain that often. Only once every 500 days. We always celebrate the rain of the year with pillow fights."
Amy giggled. She did love learning new things about other cultures. "So on Terrano you all spend a day whacking trees with pillows?" That did sound like curious fun.
Stella's eyes grew wide. "Oh no. We don't whack the trees. We whack each other. But since I was the only one here who knew anything about it...I well...I just decided to improvise. That is the correct word isn't it? Improvise?"
Amy crossed the lawn in two leaps. She completely forgot about the downpour or the lightening. Trying out new cultural traditions had always been something she could get into! And this one did sound like fun. She took one of the pillows and gave her a playful whack. "Well now, I think I can fix that problem. You'll look a lot less silly whacking me around with pillows than the old trees."
Stella grinned from ear to ear a sudden mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "You know what would look even less silly?"
"What?" Amy asked leaning in close.
"Chasing our mates around in the rain."
Both women let out squeals of delight. That was a fantastic idea! They each took up a hiding spot by the back door tucking their weapons behind their backs. Amy put a finger to her lips and then leaned around the door frame. She noticed their mates had just wandered casually into the breakfast nook, "Jon? Joshua? Would you two come out here for a sec? Your wives have something they really want to show you."
