i can has a questions!

This is something I've been meaning to do for a while, but right now, in the interests of keeping up my presence here while I'm waiting for time to outline and write more fanfic, I thought that now was a good time for me to post...

MY BURNING QUESTIONS ABOUT CHARACTERS AND PLOT IN HEROES. (especially those wacky Petrellis, natch.) And what I want is a spirited discussion in comments with your ideas and input, because I might be missing things, and because I have no one IRL to talk these things through with (except my friend Erik, who I don't see often enough. He's great for it though. Also fine for discussing The Wire with. I still believe that Omar can fly.)

Because it will necessarily contain Season 3 spoilers and there are people in the world who still haven't seen it (some of whom might be on my f-list and I don't want to traumatize anybody) I will put it all under a cut. Still - read, ponder, puzzle, speculate, and comment away.

Numbered for ease of use:

1) Sylar's Petrelli not-paternity. This has been a puzzler for a while. First, Angela tells Sylar that he's her son; later, Arthur seems to back her up on this, despite not being in touch with her (except maybe psychically) and both of them pretty much wanting to kill each other. Huh. Eventually Sylar gets the truth out of her - while he's not the child of a watchmaker and a Hummel figurine enthusiast, he's not the child of a super-chic, clairsentient sex machine neé "Banana" Shaw and an ex-soldier with some serious control issues, either.

My question is (and my firm real-life belief is that they were telegraphing the death of Nathan and his eventual replacement with a shape-shifted Gabriel Gray from the beginning of the season, so as to free up Zachary for his Spocky superstardom and give Adrian more to do since they couldn't decide on a moral center for Nathan... *sigh*) what was Angela's eventual end-game? If Gabriel hadn't figured it out on his own eventually, was she going to put him in her will and hang a Christmas stocking with his name on it? Was she willing to actually take him on as her child, or was she hoping that somehow someone could kill the nigh-immortal supervillain and she wouldn't have to deal with it? And who would that be? Peter? Was she imagining Peter's role as the garbage man? Or does she even care that much if Peter lives or dies, as long as she manages to kinda sorta save the world? (And was she lying to Peter when she told him that he was her favorite? Man, I can't believe a word that comes from that woman's mouth.)

2) And on a related note, What's the deal with Arthur's story of Gabriel's babyhood and thwarted infanticide? That was some chilling shit. Arthur came up with a pretty damn good story about how Angela tried to drown him in the bathtub when he was just a wee 'un - but WHERE did he get that idea from? And did Angela actually have that dream about SOMEBODY (Nathan, maybe?) and try to drown SOME BABY (Nathan, maybe? Or Peter?) or did he just pull the whole thing out of his ass on the spot? One way or the other, what a horrible thing to tell someone.

3) Is it at all possible to really kill Claire or Sylar? What would that entail? Decapitation? Incineration? Draw and quarter and hide all the pieces from each other? WHAT WILL IT TAKE? Burning didn't work on Adam; how he survived the explosion in White Beard's tent of ordnance is completely beyond me. I guess I can fanwank it as he was blasted clear, landed in the woods somewhere, and resembled blackened cajun snapper for an hour or so, just long enough for Hiro to fail utterly to shag Yaeko before returning to his BFF. If I was Adam, the first thing I would do when I healed would be to find Yaeko and kill the bitch. Maybe that's exactly what he did.

4) What DID Arthur do to make Peter hate him so much? And whatever it was, did Nathan know about it, and just not care, his loyalty to Arthur coming ahead of everyone else? (There does indeed seem to be an aspect of that; Nathan chose Arthur over Peter when it all came down to it. Maybe he'd done that before, too. Nonetheless, he was pretty damn calm when he came into the room and saw Arthur with his brains blown out, and Peter holding the gun.)

5) Why didn't Nathan graduate from Annapolis? What happened? And how did he get away with falsifying his record? What other lies of accomplishment has he been able to pass off? (It would explain his freakishly meteoric rise, from military school [thanks, Kring, for throwing me that fanfic bone] to Annapolis to law school to ADA to a run for public office - and even canonically, I doubt they're trying to pass him off as older than 45.)

6) Where the fuck is Heidi? (In my fantasy life, the kind that doesn't even make it into fanfic, Angela had Heidi rubbed out; that's what I would do if I was her. And I actually really, really like Heidi a lot, but I'm sorry, she knows too much. Maybe she's kicking it with Lyle and Kimiko, as the Unjustly Forgotten Family Members Coalition. Monica, Nana, and Damon, of course, are fighting the good fight in comics form, because god forbid we have black people actually ON the show who don't get killed immediately.)

7) What was Arthur's base ability? If it was to absorb powers by touch, what other abilities did he grab along the way? If it WASN'T, where did he get that ability from? And when did he manifest? Was he artificially induced later in life? (That would make a certain kind of sense.)

8) Anyone want to place a bet (semi-formal - say 6months of LJ paid account?) on who will discover "Nathan"'s secret first? Peter or "Nathan" himself? Or someone else? My money's on "Nathan". And oh, man, what an ugly scene that'll end up being. Although of course a giant asteroid could hit the earth, killing everyone except Claire, and that would solve the problem very neatly.

Fire at will!

petrellis be the craziest people, show discussion, no seriously wtf, season three, comment fishing
