Dear Friends List, I want to share with you my top five list of my own stuff. Agreements? Disagreements? Comment away; the field's wide open. In no particular order:
Ritual 33: Family Values. I like this one because it really has the feel of the show - the situations, the characterizations, and the constantly explosive love/hate relationship that Peter and Nathan display - as well as bringing the funny, and also my description of a sudden-onset high fever taken from my own experience. Has that "Heroes with an X rating" tone that I often attempt, but only occasionally accomplish.
Ritual 20: The Milky Way. Taking a real-life extreme situation - the huge power outage that hit the U.S. east coast one hot summer day - and using it as a framework for complete and utter smut. And the ending is particularly lovely, knowing what we now know.
Ritual 32: The Penitential Rite. I have never had to work so hard to write a piece of fic before - I rewatched those included scenes something like seventy times so that I knew not only the dialogue, but choosing which dialogue was best suited for inclusion - but man, it was worth it. Includes some of the most challenging kink I've ever written, too. A risky but necessary move, but successful - and yes, I wish that this had been the Season 2 finale, too (not that the events of the Season 2 finale did not occur - oops, spoilers for the next round of Ritual fics! And yeah, sorry. I'm Kring's bitch, even when I don't want to be. What he says, I'm afraid, goes).
Ritual 36: It's Now or Never. Written in a full state of compulsion, like so many good ones - the urge to just keep going writing a first-time slashfic scene, and the urge to write something about all these great oldies that suddenly resurfaced in my life around that time. "Vermont" is pretty good, but I couldn't commit to one point of view. I wasn't as brave about the subject matter then. "It's Now or Never" actually fulfills the scene's promise.
You're One of Them. Remember this Peter/Claude story arc? Started out as a response to a fic challenge, and then ate my brain. I adore this and I miss the hell out of Claude; something about his character was a strangely erotic powerhouse of the imagination.
...Dammit, why'd I have to limit myself to five? I love so many others (that RPF fic, which still makes me blush when I read it!) - but I do love them all, like my brood of fucked-up children. And I need to make some more ASAP. Wish me luck.
