[This call comes a little after the meeting has ended, with enough time that you might have had a quick snack or made it to your room to lounge around and relax. Her voice is amiable and warm, almost cloying.]That was an interesting meeting, wasn't it? Suppose it was a little much, hoping for a vacation. I've only been here two days, but that's ( Read more... )

I haven't really heard anything like that before, at least not defined as magic-use, if that makes sense. I'm fairly sure the people who opened the portal here weren't thinking of it as magic at least. But is it fair to assume that when you've travelled that way you've been in complete control of it?

[The matter of missing people isn't an easy one for him, but a calm face in front of people is a kind of formality, especially a new arrival who he's trying to get some kind of sense of. It's a distraction even, lest he end up disregarding the advice he was given to try and stay calm and not to take off on his own.]

Ah, that's fine by me, really. Most of us have been to the town already at least once so I don't mind keeping you company and it wouldn't be any trouble, just let me know whenever you'd like to go. Er... I hope you don't mind me asking, but is what you're wearing right now really so unsuitable for this place?

Oh, I'm Allen, by the way. Allen Walker. Forgive me, I should have introduced myself already, that was rather rude of me.

LMAO TWO WEEKS LATER no but really never... don't reply. :< fishnets November 13 2011, 06:24:32 UTC
It could make sense, I suppose. If there were more details given... is, ah, the portal your first experience with that sort of "instant" style of travel, then? And yeah, I've, ah... well, what I do is similar to that.

[She doesn't seem to notice that it's taking him any sort of effort. Or, at least she doesn't offer any indication that she's aware there's more to this than the usual exchange of pleasantries.]

I appreciate that and... ah, unfortunately if I were to wear what I have now in public, some might mistake me for... [How do you say this without saying "prostitute" or "hooker" and still get the point across that you are not one... w e l p.] It's ah, showy, basically. It's appropriate for the sort of work I do and that is really it. [Except not. And it didn't make it sound any better, Zee.]

Zatanna Zatara -- Zatanna's fine -- and it's nice to meet you. So to speak.

I will backtag forever and ever, I just know not everyone is into tags that are WEEKS AND WEEKS LATE excommunicated November 14 2011, 21:44:37 UTC
Ah, not exactly, I had a means of travelling close to instantly back home--for a time--though a kind of gateway system. But it wasn't really considered magic in a traditional sense, more a combination of technology and...something else. But this was a bit of different experience--the gate only ever took me to places I was expecting to go to before, and definitely never to a different time or world.

[Fortunately, or unfortunately some may argue, Allen is not without experience of being around sexworkers: his teacher has quite the reputation and spending two years travelling with a man like that exposes a kid to certain things. At any rate, Allen wouldn't have been judgemental if Zatanna was in that line of work, but the point is moot and not really a good topic to engage on a first conversation!] Showy? Wait, what kind of work do you do? Are you in the entertainment business?

It's good to meet--ah, speak to you too, Zatanna. Since we're all stuck in an less-than-ideal situation it'd be good if we could get to know one another and support each other until we find a way back. [Oh yes, he's keeping a tight hold on the logic that there is a way back...]

Is that... how you came here, then? On accident through that gateway? Because I think... I don't know, I'm pretty sure I was teleporting somewhere and I just kind of ended up here. Memory's still a bit fuzzy, when it comes to the moments before I arrived.

[Hey, man. It ain't okay to accuse that of her. Not that she... really has issues with people who choose to live that life. Zee's pretty open.] I am, yes! Though if your mind immediately went to a literal showy, I've not been involved in many carnivals; know one of the greatest aerialists to ever live and -- oh, um, off track! I'm a magician, actually.

I am hoping much the same. [Of course there's a way back. R-right? Right.]

Yes, that's right. I was using the gateway system in my own world, but as I stepped through it I arrived here with several others who definitely weren't doing the same thing I had been, which makes me think that stepping into the gate in my world and ending up here is, interestingly, not related. I'd be the only one otherwise. It actually sounds like your experience was similar to mine, in that sense.

[Hey, hey, there's no accusation here what happens in the meta stays in the meta Upon actually seeing her, Allen would not have come to that conclusion anyways.]

Ahhh! It's been so long since I've spoken to a performer! Hmmm~ ♪ It makes me nostalgic: I used to general labour with a travelling circus before becoming a street clown with my adoptive father. Eheh... This excitement must be a bit embarrassing, my apologies, I've just been away from that kind of lifestyle for a while.

What are your expertises?

we are pretty incredible, I must admit. o/ fishnets November 27 2011, 06:53:11 UTC
Mm, someone I know... ah, quite well arrived not long after I did, too. [There's a certain wistfulness to her tone. Whether it was intentional or not is hard to say. She pauses.] I do not think him being here is a mere coincidence.

Really? We don't have many street performers where I come from -- at least not people who can make a living off of it. [And clowns are nearly obsolete, aren't they?] I'd love to hear more about it, whenever you've time.

I'm a solo performer, mostly. I'd say my specialties range from illusions to escapism, to contorting my body. Mostly illusions, though. I like the challenge in it.
