[It was quite true that Heine didn't much like unfinished areas of concern... When it was to do with him. In approaching Kanda he had, in his way, been awkwardly reaching out, even if just to spin in circles about a problem that had no simple solution. The self-centred attitude was nothing new for him.
But when Kanda had suddenly turned and moved the topic away from Heine's irritation at his psychotic stalker from home and called him to come along, Heine didn't resist. He had been surprised, but just as Kanda had gotten used to Heine's attitudes, Heine had, naturally, become accustomed to Kanda. This chick must really mean something, huh? Well, can't be helped.
As they stand outside the door, Heine with his hands in his pockets and looking generally disinterested in the whole affair, there is all of a sudden a kind of shift that Heine could never put into words but knows very well. It's the shift that said it was a moment to get serious, that something is not right and deserves full attention.
It was something in Kanda's body-language that confirms that feeling to Heine--the way his muscles tense, the way he says the girl-exorcist's name and the lack of hesitation between the question and the twist-click of the lock.
Heine shifts his own body, head lifting to give the area more focus, his hands moving out from his pockets to his hips where his thumbs brush over the smooth metal of the tops of his two guns. Default reaction, he's not drawing either one yet: he's not that trigger-happy.
But Kanda's sense doesn't seem off--there is definitely something in that room.]
[Nezumi, however, didn't hear the voice call out or the door actually open. He was already making a quick bee-line right for the edge of the woods with all due haste. Now that he was outside, however, he did slow down long enough to unwind his cloak from around his neck and flick it out properly, settle it around his neck.
He pulled the hood up as he started back into a jog, all the while telling himself that whatever happened to the girl wasn't his issue. He just needed to know where she'd gone to - or more importantly, how she'd gone.]
My slow pwns all your slows! kandescenceNovember 3 2011, 18:46:31 UTC
[Kanda spots the open window as soon as he's inside, and it doesn't take any deductive leap at all to guess where whoever was in the room has gone. He doesn't bother to look around for anything else, and pays Heine only a glance since he can already feel the shift in energy.
Already he's crossed the room and is vaulting out of the open window, trusting that his companion won't need an explanation. Heine can follow or not as he wants, but Kanda is chasing whoever has lately been in that room.
It's only by chance that the moonlight shows him the fleeing silhouette heading for the treeline, and there's no way that he can make out any details or identify the person in this light or at this distance, but that doesn't stop him giving chance nonetheless.
He's not giving himself away until he's closed the distance either, so he runs wordlessly until he feels sure he could overtake the slower-moving figure ahead. Only then does he call out sharply.]
I dunno, my failure to TRACK THIS THREAD might be pretty awesome :|bulletcarnageNovember 14 2011, 22:12:07 UTC
[Yeah, vaulting over windows was totally the done thing... Sarcasm aside, Heine wasn't unfamiliar with the need to suddenly get serious and move unexpected through places.
He catches the look Kanda shoots him and definitely does feel that snapping change in the air that said whatever had been preoccupying Heine before (Giovanni) had to wait until this matter at hand was dealt with.
So he moves quickly after the exorcist, clearing the windowsill easily with one hand pressing down on the windowframe to guide the movement and the chain attached to his gun chiming out with each step he made on the damp grass.
Really, he's content to let Kanda handle the initial attempt at contact with the figure they've started chasing after in the dark.
Ughhh... How does he always end up getting dragged into shit like this?]
Our combined powers of fail is what's truly awesome!prefertragediesNovember 27 2011, 18:03:07 UTC
[There was a distinct impression of something not safe coming in behind Nezumi. Nothing so strong as an actual danger or threat, but that clear sense of a non-friendly someone there behind him and closing in. That alone is more than enough of a reason to add a sharp burst of speed as he enters the woodline.
In this instance, perfect nightvision and the fact that he's already spent much of his free time familiarizing himself with these woods is a wonderful advantage, and one he uses to the full extent, now. Which is why he's careful to keep each breath light, even, and his steps through the litterleaf muted as possible as he weaves a quick path nearly parallel to the edge of the woods, away from the house and the city.
He keeps one ear trained on the sounds behind him and his eyes on the trees around him, his voice a low, lingering note drawn out slowly. A plea for non-human ears as he cuts a swift path into allied territory.]
We are truly special, all three of us.kandescenceNovember 27 2011, 19:11:17 UTC
[Damn irritating treeline and the shelter it gives at night, but truth be told, Kanda isn't really expecting the runner to stop. Not until he's forced to, anyway.
He gains the treeline half a dozen seconds behind, and for a time he keeps right on running...until its clear that he's lost sight of his quarry. Damn.
Slowing to a momentary halt, the swordsman looks around, relying on his ears more than his eyes. He can hear Heine close behind him, but there's something else too, something out of place in the night air. He orients his head trying to place the sound's source and musing over what it could be. Not menacing, but...strange.]
What is that? [He must mean the question for Heine, since if he was speaking to himself he wouldn't bother saying it aloud.]
[Okay, truth be known this kind of terrain is not Heine's forte at all. If it were the twisting, spider web-like dirty back alleyways of a city then Heine wouldn't have had a problem keeping up. But undergrowth was somehow different--different feel, different smells. It threw him some.
He draws up to Kanda once the exorcist has stopped, his eyes scanning the area carefully before his expression creases with bemusement. He shrugs his shoulders then with a noise indicative of a 'I dunno' emerging from somewhere in his throat. ]
[It's a relief to hear the sounds of pursuit fade, though he isn't foolish enough to assume the others had given up entirely. It's enough of a distance, however, for him to raise his voice, the song building in a quick crescendo before tapering off with an abrupt note.
After that he simply draws a slow breath then lets it out as he crouches down in the underbrush as he waits, still and calm to the core as he listens to the barely there hints of the pack's approach.]
