2 out of 3 ain't bad

I often joke that, if you're gonna keep the electoral college around for presidential elections, a much more economic way of running things is to abolish elections in 47 states. Yup, just get rid of them. Have elections in three states only: Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Whoever wins 2 out of 3 is President!

After a bit of research, I discovered my idea is really not that silly. The last time someone took 2 out of those 3 states and didn't win was... 48 years ago! And the main reason it even happened back then is that Florida got less than half the electoral votes that it does today, so it's not really a comparable situation.

Will this year's election continue the trend? We shall see!
