a reason to drive to work every day

It's truly difficult to feel sympathy for the TTC and TTC workers when they pull stunts like this.  You're trying to make me believe they walked out on their own, withouth direction from the union?  Do you mean to say that all the 5am workers simultaneously thought "hmm...maybe I don't work today and take a stand against the MAN"?  Ok.  Yeah.  ( Read more... )

Speaking from experience, coming from a communist country as well as having been a union member before, let me just say that they suck. I hate unions, they make decisions on behalf of the group that are most times not representative of the workers. In three years of teaching, I went through three strikes, and every single one was not fully supported by the members. I had to go walk the line, to tell my students that my classroom was closed cause some guy in the union told me so. Did I have a choice? Sure, but I might as well have quit my job, your contract states that you must follow their directions. That's a major part of why I am not teaching anymore ( ... )

I probably should be more sympathetic to unions, but I'm not. J is in a union and he doesn't believe in them either. But he has no choice. Its either you're with the union or you're not. What sucks about the union is that it keeps inadequate people working. It's very difficult to get fired when you're in the union. If someone is incompetent, they promote them....at least at J's company.

..who CAN do the job, who has the support of EVERYONE in the office INCLUDING colleagues as far away as Thunder Bay and Sudbury, who's currently in a dept. where they're SHORT on staff.....

...and I'm only working 12.5 hrs/week.

Unions protect the lazy/incompetent....PERIOD.
