OK. I have a few songs in my guitar case. Ok, they've been there awhile. Some have been sent to the black hole of Nashville's Music City Row ("It was wintertime in Nashville, down on Music City Row, and I was looking for a place to get my self out of the cold" - Kris, "To Beat the Devil"). So, I'm going to stop worrying about ripoff artists out there. Matterafact, to paraphrase good ol' Abbie Hoffman, "Steal this song." Ain't gonna see the light of day any other way. (Like anyone reads this anyway.) One warning, if you steal one without contacting me, I'll sue your socks off:)
Here's one of them. Sing it like a mournful Neil Young. It's called:
"Lost Canyon"
There was a girl I knew in Utah
The wind blew me to her
She said we'd live forever
And work the hot dry canyon dirt
But she left me in the winter
When the canyon winds blow cold
Now I'm caught between those canyon walls
And at night I dream of her
Oh------------- Lost Canyon
Oh, Lost Canyon
Her voice rides on the river
Her hair is black as coal
Her laughter makes me shiver
Her eyes burn to my soul
And the sun beats down upon me
In the middle of the day
And I shake my head and wonder
If I'll ever get away
From----------- Lost Canyon
Oh, Lost Canyon
What are these walls around me now
Where the wind has blown me far
They're in concrete, glass and metal rows
There's a river of rushing cars
And every now and then I see
Her face in a passerby
But she flies away and I know I'm lost
In these canyon walls so high
Oh------------- Lost Canyon
Oh, Lost Canyon
The night falls on Lost Canyon
And shadows cross my soul
As the darkness fills the chasm
And tries to make it whole
But the river keeps on cutting
Digging deeper through the past
As it frees forgotten fossils
Whose fate like mine is cast
Oh------------- Lost Canyon
Oh, Lost Canyon
