thirteenth hymn [ .action. ]

[Thankful for the overcast weather, Tear is currently perched awkwardly on a chair outside of Haruki's Brigade HQ. She's holding a sign in her lap, with her fingertips curled over the top of it and her face ducked to where you can't quite see it's her unless you recognize her hair color. She's dressed like this, hence the hiding. The sign reads;]

-Rohan's going about setting up his easel. You get two guesses what he just started drawing. The first one doesn't count.-

[...Oh my. Shifts a little, awkward. Suppose it's best to stay still, though. >>;]

-He figures he may as well do his best to capture the moment. He begins to swiftly pen the scene before him, including some of the conversation. No doubt this may end up an omake in the next Luceti Densetsu.-

[Isn't entirely sure how to react to being drawn. ...Especially not dressed as she is. So she just kind of stays still and silent.]

You know, I think it's the lack of life in your stance that makes this scene so interesting. It's not quite fanservice anymore as much as it's a really telling display of inverse sexuality.

-He was partially talking to himself, it seemed.-

[Tilts her head a little at him, echoing.] "Inverse sexuality"...?

Hm? Oh, it's nothing.

-He goes back to drawing.-

The trick is in not playing to the archetypes. A shy girl with a body like yours has fans in droves based purely on some god-awful tropes.

So what I'm drawing... is something different..

-he made pauses in his speech as he made adjustments to the initial sketch work.-

In fact, this may even end up a splash image. I'm loving how it's turning out. Would you mind having a look?

A... splash image? [Yoinking her coat off the back of the chair now, wandering over to him to have a look-see at his drawing.]

It's an illustration that usually fills in the space between chapters in a tankoban, or volume. Here, -He turns the sketch towards her, allowing her to look.

What she's met with is a more classic style portrait, with Rohan's own bizarre flare added to it. It highlights her look, rather than drives up the apparent "sexiness" of what she was forced to wear. Very flattering actually. He managed to avoid the stereotypes of a figured girl in a bunny outfit.-

[And very flattered is Tear, even turning a bit pink in the face.]

...You're very skilled.

They don't hand Tezuka Awards to just any upstart off the street.

The Tezuka Award is a semi-annual manga award offered by the Japanese publisher Shueisha (whom I work for), under the auspices of its Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. It awards new comic artists in the Story Manga category. The award is named after the manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka and is designed to cultivate new artists. The prize for a top Selected Work is worth one million Japanese yen and for a lesser but still worthy work, half-a-million yen. These cash prizes may not be awarded (as is often the case) if the judges deem none of the candidates worthy.

Historically the awardees have been in their early twenties. I wont it when I was 19.
