So I'm not sure how many of you know about this campaign, but I'm pretty sure most of you don't. If you know me at all (or at least a little), you should know that I feel very strongly and positively about campaigns and motions toward global justice.
Invisible Children is basically a foundation that has set their goal to provide the children in Uganda (child soldiers, night commuters, & the Lord's Resistance Army) "with quality education and valuable life skills that will enable them to take responsibility of their future and the future of their country".
This campaign originated when three Californians went to Uganda, knowing nothing, but came back with stories so horrifying yet inspiring that they had to go back, document it, and help them.
I found out about this earlier when I was looking up stuff at
neptune_style and found out that Veronica wears the Innocent bracelet (part of IC's bracelet campaign) in 3x11 and I really wanted one (since, y'know, I tend to want whatever she has). Of course, when I got to the site, I started navigating around and watching the videos and being moved, inspired, and emotional (as I usually am with these things).
Here's Veronica wearing the bracelet:
one twoInnocent bracelet:
$20 US. Other colours (Make sure you check out the
actual bracelet campaign section on the site.)
The Film:
Also $20 US. They're actually going on tour and showing the film at various theatres and stuff. Alas, they're not coming to Canada, which makes me sad, but I encourage all of you Americans to go out and watch it if possible. I want to buy the Innocent bracelet and movie so badly, but I have zero money to spend. Guh. I've also been wanting to get one of the
INSPI(RED) t-shirts for forever now, but I'm getting off topic.
Basically, I hope all of you didn't just...skip over this post. There are so many unsolved issues in the world today. I wish we could somehow all aid in the bettering of all of them - but we can't. So we'll just have to do it step by step, little by little, and, I know, it will make a difference. So please. Step up to the challenge today. We can all do it.
