going to philly tomorrow, well i guess it's today since it's after 12...going with my mother to see this psychic that my aunt had gone to...should be interesting
did some intake interviews @ dauphin county prison today, then violin lesson #2 at 5:30...i was really tired and cranky today b/c i had 3 hrs of sleep, so during my lesson i was irratable...my lesson is only 30 mins, and i pay $15 a lesson...so for the first 5 mins of the lesson, my instructor is telling me about the new matrix movie...which i could care less about and have not an ounce of desire to see....it kinda pissed me off b/c i am not paying him $.50 a minute to tell me about the matrix...other than that, he's a great instructor...but today i had problems w/my posture, i have a tendency to not keep my elbow up as high as i should, and he kept telling me to fix it, which annoyed me...my theory is, that it doesn't matter what kind of posture you have or what way you hold the bow or position the violin or your hands, as long as the desired sound results...everybody forms their own style of playing, which includes their own way of positioning things and such...who cares if it doesn't comply to the "traditional" way of doing things? as long as you can play the same music and it sounds the same, who gives a damn?? but then i run into the problem of orchestras...if and when i get good enough at playing the violin, i would like to be in an orchestra...and they require everyone to have good posture and positioning...so i should probably just suck it up and do it the "right" way...oh well, i think about these things...
