Who am I to deny Lavi/Allen? Hey, doing two hours of reasearch for a simple drabble isn't too much, is it, especially since basically none of it ended up in the thing itsself? XD

Also, yay, thanks. I wasn't quite happy with the way that turned out (that drabble was being a real bitch) but I'm glad the hug still had that impact.

Now for your (slightly less bitchy) drabble. XD It turned out more Gen than I'd intended it to be, though...

---

Suitcases swinging at their sides, Lavi and Allen made their way down the gently sloping path until they had put some distance between themselves and the small group of houses. Link trailed his customary four steps behind.

In Allen's opinion the mission to the remote Irish village hadn't been a waste of time. Even though the rumours that had originally drawn the finders to this corner of Kerry had proven to be completely unrelated to Innocence, it had gotten them out of the new headquarters for a couple of nights. While Komui was making a point of trying to make the place feel homey to everyone, his efforts were being somewhat thwarted by his new aide. Additionally the increased presence of Central personnel was giving it an oppressive feel.

He wasn't sure if Lavi felt the same, but he had certainly been happy enough to accompany him on his mission. He had a feeling Lavi was still trying to make up for the time he'd spent locked inside HQ before he had gotten his hammer back.
Right now, the readhead had his arms behind his back and was surveying the scenery with a complacent smile and Allen found himself doing the same. Even the light spring drizzle wasn't able to put a dent in his good mood; he hadn't even bothered to put on his hood.

The landscape was captivating: with the small lake further down the hill to their leftand the first brilliantly green blades of grass that were braving their way out of the ground, giving the countryside a velvety look whenever the sun brushed across it. And when the clouds cleared, the mountains, that still had the faintest dusting of snow, added their own charm to the scenery.

Somehow Allen felt at odds with the sight. The black and red of their uniforms seemed out of place, like a reminder of war in a stretch of land to which life was starting to return at the beginning of spring.

"Looks peaceful, doesn't it?"

He glanced at his two companions. Link's expression was as hard to read as it ever was, but he thought he detected a slight scowl of disapproval at the weather. Lavi's smile however now took on a more wistful quality.

"You know, half a century ago, the place was teeming with Akuma."

Allen blinked and tried to imagine the sky speckled with level ones. Experience had taught him to expect Akuma everywhere, but somehow, the thought of them here seemed frivolous.

"Bookman Junior is right" Link spoke up behind them, barely even looking up from his notebook. "In the Great Famine Ireland's population decreased by an estimated twenty-five percent. More than enough people to be enticed by the Millenium Earl's offer."

Allen had never thought of it that way. History lessons had never been Part of Cross' training regime -one more duty his Master had managed to neglect- and Allen had so far failed to make the connection to the snippets of information he'd caught during his childhood.

Lavi hummed thoughtfully beside him. "And since most of it is pretty inaccessible, the Exorcists had a hard time keeping up, especially since there were precious few of them."
Lavi turned his head, so that Allen no longer saw anything but the side of his face, most of which was concealed by the eyepatch. "Luckily the island's so close to the rest of Europe, or it could have easily set a precedent for Japan."

When Allen turned his head back towards the threads of smoke that rose from the village's chimneys he looked at them from a different perspective. They were lucky, really. This was the ideal place for Akuma to spead. Had the Earl paid the village a visit, they could have erradicated several villages before the Orden even got word of it.

Suddenly there was an arm around his shoulder, that quickly tightened to the point where it became uncomfortable and a hand was ruffling his hair.

"C'mon beansprout, cheer up," Lavi chimed, "let's get back and have Jerry feed you. I'm sure he's missed his favourite glutton." The taller teen was leaning on him with what felt like half his body weight and was making Allen stagger slightly. He was just about to retailiate and step on his foot heavily ,when the other added in more hushed tone: "And then we ditch two-spot when he gives his report."

With Lavi's face that close, Allen couldn't help but notice the small droplets of rain water that clung to his lashes and eyebrows and the way a damp strand of hair was brushing the side of his face. He nodded and then smiled broadly before he stood on Lavi's foot anyway.
.
The other's betrayed yelps of pain lasted until Allen opened a portal back to headquarters.

Slightly schizophrenic scene I'm not quite happy with, but eh, I've given up fighting it for now ^^'

I like it! It's slightly wistful, it's sweet, and it has spot-on characterization of Allen, Lavi and Link *g* Aaaaand I can see the research that went into it! Haha, I do that quite a lot of the time, researching and then ending up not using about 80% of the researched material. I especially like that I can see the scene in my mind, the green of the place and the wet sheen it has because of the rain :)

Also Allen trodding on Lavi's foot anyway is BRILLIANT XD Such a spunky kid he is.

Gen is good, gen is yummy and fun ♥

Thank you for writing this for me! :D

You're welcome. :D

Allen won't take shit from nobody, thank you very much. Just because they have this THING doesn't mean Lavi can be an idiot. XD

The research thing is slightly annoying though. XD I know where exactly they are, but the name of the village never made it into the fic. Neither did the whole line of thought how Allen (being English) would not be very popular with the villagers. And how Lavi would be able to speak Irish and would thus do most of the talking.

But yay. Glad you enjoyed it. \o/
