Today I found myself very very grateful to Air New Zealand counter staff: I arrived at the airport for my trip to Palmerston North, only to be told that that particular flight was cancelled, but they'd get me to Wellington "sometime" and then bus me to Palmie, with an indeterminate arrival time (a combination of bad weather in Wellington slowing all flights (so why not hub through PMR?) and a pilot strike grounding my particular flight; the counter staff were so annoyed at not being given any information they were willing to do all sorts of deals, so I found myself dining on Air New Zealand's tab and being flown all the way to Tauranga, at no extra charge.
