OK. the heat is on. I spoke to one of the community colleges yesterday. There are two that I have been debating. One is CCD community college of denver. The other is red rocks community college. I asked both schools whats the difference between them and basically it's nothing. I mean one school offers different specialtys than the other but since I am going for my AAS it doesn't matter, they are both the same. My friend Dan goes to CCD and is trying to convince me that it's better. Well it is a "younger" crowd, it is bigger, it has a more social atmosphere. And he's there. But you have to pay for parking, if you can find any parking, because it's downtown. And it has a better relationship with one of the major colleges.
Red rocks on the other hand has three campuses, well CCD does too but only one is close enough to consider, red rocks has two close enough. One is close to downtown, the other is kinda up in the middle of nowhere. It has an older student population. There really is no social setting other than the library, but thats the one im considering. So do I go for the younger crowd or the older crowd? I do not want to go to school to socialize, but I would like the socialization. I also don't want to be "the old one". So weeeeeeee.
I am also debating should I start summer classes or fall? I wanted to start summer classes, this way I could get going right away and the kids wouldn't be in school so I wouldn't be running around like a chicken with my head cut off back and forth to their school all day so I might actually get some work done during the day.
I was all for summer until the lady at the school told me the class length. It runs form May 31 to August 10th. I said "WOW, thats short isn't it?". She then informed me that the summer classes run 10 weeks instead of 15 and everything is compacted into a shorter time frame. So basically it's one and a half times the workload to get it all done. That changed one thing, I was gonna take 3 classes, now I may take two. But then I thought about it. Do I really think I can handle that much work just getting back into it. I mean I haven't gone to school in like forever. For every hour of class time they expect 3 hours of home study. Can I pull that off in a summer class where everything is compressed and therefore requires even more home study than normal? Even with the kids home?
So I am debating. Which school, which session. And should I take the CLEPS or not. The whole deal with that is the community colleges have arrangements with the big colleges that as long as you stick to the cirriculum all of the credits are transferrable. So if I decide after a year I want to go to Harvard, they have to accept all of the credits I've received. But if I take the CLEPS, and I have to transfer before I get my degree, I could lose credits because it breaks the agreement the schools have. I don't think I would be able to CLEP out of more than 3 or 4 classes anyway so would it make it worth it? Who knows.
Anyway, anyone have some advice or opinions, anything? HELP!
