I really do feel physical pain when people IM or email me saying things like "ppl" and using "2" for "to" or even "too" or just "u r" or even abbreviating words with no functional abbreviation ("pleeZ" for "please") and so on and so on and I want to die ( Read more... )

Those people who write like this are neither old enough nor mature enough to be unleashed on the internet and should be immediately disconnected.

The same goes for text messages.

I disagree on the text message part for two reasons.
1) there is a character limit
2) if you don't have a qwerty keypad on the phone typing is a bitch.

BUT if it's a short enough message and you've got qwerty, type the shit out. I know I do.

Otherwise, I fully endorse this comment and the post above. (:

1) there is a character limit

Use more than one message.

2) if you don't have a qwerty keypad on the phone typing is a bitch.

I learned to type full words, complete with capitals and punctuation, on the press-it-three-times keypad without predictive text - why can't everyone else?

It all boils down to unacceptable amounts of laziness.

I should add - I had a Nokia 5510 once because I wanted a QWERTY keypad more than anything else. Bad move - several keys broke on it, including E and L (I wouldn't mind so much if it'd been Q and X), as its build quality was comparable to a Lăstun.

I reverted to a Sony Ericsson K750i, with the build quality of a Volvo, all the features I'd ever need for the rest of my life, and a normal keypad.

And not once in my life, either before or after the 5510, have I ever written a text like a 12-year-old.

Sadly most of the offenders are at least my age, if not yours or older.

um, seriously? is this post/lj entry a joke? this is a joke, right? it physically pains me when people use internet slang and abbreviations and do things differently than i do. and those people that i'm complaining about and saying hurt me by using words that aren't even hurtful are immature.

WHAT?! seriously, is this a troll-post?

I am only a troll in the sense of being one of those huge, hairy creatures that live in caves in Scandinavia and eat goats.

Not the tiny things with bright pink hair that sit on the end of a pencil.

I say again: more people need to be punished for their shameful illiteracy. It will be the ruin of the English-speaking world otherwise.
