#233. Surprise! Your daughter is at the door--and at a most inopportune moment! Now what?

For a blind woman, Irene knew exactly how to make Raven squirm. As a precog she also helped make sure they didn't traumatize their daughter when she entered the bedroom because of a nightmare. After the incident with the Robbins boy the nightmares were becoming more frequent and sometimes when the girl entered the room she wasn't exactly sure who she was, or where she was.

Those nights were the hardest. Trying to calm a frightened ten year old boy trapped in their little girl's body. A boy who screamed at the sight of Raven's natural blue skin, calling her a demon. It cut deep whenever those words came out of her daughter's mouth, even when she knew it wasn't Anna saying them.

When Irene could tell which persona would be entering the room she would give warning and Raven would shift into the Darkholme persona, the one Cody would recognize as his best friend's mother. It was still a shock to the child, unsure how he came to be in Anna's house. Why he was wearing Anna's clothes. Why he couldn't find his best friend.

Eventually the child would calm down and Anna would push forward, sending Cody to the back of her mind. She was always inconsolable, crying hard as she clung to Raven, weeping for the loss of her best friend.

The boy's sacrifice was needed to ensure their survival. Raven was certain that Anna would come to understand that.

So far, she hasn't.
