author's note: this is my last post-rescue fic, i swear :D
"It's the hero who gets the girl, not the sidekick," he always says when he's in a self-loathing mood. He's still insecure about himself.
He thinks he doesn't deserve her. He's not a hero. This is not the way it's supposed to be.

"You know, they say that relationships that start under intense circumstances never work," he said when they were trying to figure out what to do.
They had been rescued and they no longer lived ten feet away from each other but still they couldn't keep away from each other's lives.
"Keanu Reeves said that in the movie Speed," Kate laughed and at the time it felt like a good idea to move in together.

Sometimes she feels like she's repeating her mother's mistakes.
He never hits her but when they are enough angry and frustrated, the shouting gets loud and words cut like knives.
She knows he's hounted by the ghosts of his childhood too. He's afraid of turning into his father.
Sometimes he leaves and doesn't come back until days later. He says he's sorry but refuses to talk to her.

"I can't love you for the both of us, " she says after she's told him she's leaving.
"Please don't do this," he pleads when she has packed her bags and the cab is waiting outside. "Dammit!" He bangs his fist on the door frame.
She bandages his knuckles and sleeps next to him. She doesn't leave until the morning.
