LJ Idol Exhibit A Week 0 Introduction

I suppose I could say it all began in 1943 when I was introduced to the world. But considering that was almost seventy years ago, I am pretty darn certain that the complete and unabridged version of my illustrious autobiography would not be appreciated reading at this time. I might decide to share a little as time goes by.

Fast-forward to just a couple years ago when I became involved with this whole Idol family. Encouraged by my author-daughter, a veteran of the game herself, I began to practice some writing towards the end of Season 6 in the Home Games. I wrote on the same topics as the folks competing in the official game but was not in the actual competition. I read other peoples entries and became fascinated.

I decided to sign up officially for Season 7. The more I read of others’ entries, the more open I became to seeing things differently and appreciating varied perspectives. I was continuing my education, you might say; and being a life-long learner, that really appealed to me. Each week I was amused, sometimes shocked, and often moved emotionally. Dark sides and scary creatures, worlds I had never heard of came to life in my imagination and I fell in love with the talent and expertise of many fabulous story-tellers. I began to make friends with people I didn’t know. I astonished myself when I made the Top 50 before being eliminated.

When it was time for Season 8, I couldn’t wait to get back to writing and reading and being so thoroughly entertained. I strove to improve on my own contributions gradually branching out from mostly true recollections to creating mixed fact and fiction and even creating some real fiction. I amazed myself. I beat my own record and lasted into the Top 20. Now I have a legacy of memoirs among my achievements and am truly proud that I had stories selected for publication in Idol Meanderings. Go Me!! I never dreamed I would accomplish these things in my retirement years.

Now here we are with this novel idea of the Mini-Idol competition. This should be really fun! I can’t even begin to imagine what is in store for us with this short-term version of the game. Well, actually, that’s not exactly true. Those of us who have been around for a while KNOW that things are not always what they seem: Rollercoaster, twists and turns, warp speed? Hang on people! Here we go!
