Dear Yuletide Writer, 2015 edition
Hi Yuletide writer! I'm really excited about my requests this year, and I hope you're as excited as I am! I'm a very easy recipient and I'm sure I'll love whatever you write. (A lot of this letter is me talking about stuff I do not like, and then figuring out ways I would still like them, heh.) If you're not the type to look at letters, go and write like the wind! Otherwise...
Likes I love romance and makeouts. I love dialogue, either witty banter or heart-wrenching stuff. I love strong friendships/relationships between women. I love found families (and actual families!). I like both angst and fluff. I like stories about people getting together. I like stories that span long periods of time, but I also like small moments that let me glimpse at a couple. I like dudes being really into ladies. Tropes I like, whether they fit this year's requests or not: pretending to be married/dating, secret relationships, enemies to lovers [friends in the middle being an optional step], threesomes, forbidden relationships, and probably a lot of stuff I'm forgetting.
Dislikes I'm asking for at least two adulterous ships (three depending on how you write the Drop Dead Diva request), and I really dislike when the current partner is written as evil just to make the ship more likeable. Don't character-bash anyone, please. I also don't like violence - it's fine if you need to include canon details like Deb's or Hamilton's deaths, but don't dwell on it. Not into BDSM either. I don't really like alternate POVs of canon, or dialogue-less character studies.
Sexy stuff If you don't want to write porn, great! If you do want to write porn, also great! I'm fine with any degree of explicitness, except for Drop Dead Diva (see details in that part of the letter) and for Hamilton RPF (no porn please). I'm not very kinky - or well, my kinks are more about the people involved in the sex acts than the acts themselves. (If that doesn't make any sense to you, well, I am requesting a 30 year old man with a 16 year old woman, and a man with his wife and her sister. But I'd rather nobody tie anybody else up.) I like guys going down on girls, and dirty talk (if you think it works with the characters - I'm not sure Drop Dead Diva's Fred would know his way around the word "cock", but I'm pretty certain Hamilton would drop a lot of language before or during the act).
Other I like AUs, but I'd rather you keep to the canon setting for NDP RPF, Hamilton RPF and Drop Dead Diva, since they are tiny fandoms. (I feel like Hamilton will be bigger than the others, so I'm more excited about AUs there - see that part of the letter.) I'm fine with canon divergence AUs though (straight up asking for one for Drop Dead Diva!). I'm fine with any verb tenses or POVs. The first three requests are pretty shippy, but I promise I will like gen just as much, as long as it focusses on the characters I've requested and their friendship/relationship.
Recipient-stalking I write a lot of junk in tags on my tumblr. Mostly things are well organized, though, so you could probably find something by tag. They just hit so many of my buttons, including but not limited to: actors who pretend at being in love by day and then are really in love (/lust) by night, forbidden relationships (she was 16! he was in a committed relationship!), secret relationships, and the fact that it's all set backstage at a show I was/am in love with is the perfect cherry on the (dirty, dirty) sundae. I'd love to read anything about their relationship: hating each other at first because Julie was a dumb teenager, quick hookups behind the scenes between songs, hiding their relationship from the press until Julie finally turns 18, Luck or Bruno trying to reason with them or protect Julie from big dirty Patrick, their years in a committed relationship, them hooking up when they reunite the cast for the Kiev performances, ALL OF THESE AT ONCE, JUST, PATRICK AND JULIE!!!!
This request is my forever request. Last year, I signed up for that list of requests you've always made but never got, and lo and behold, someone wrote me a treat, and it was awesome!!! So I really wondered if I should ask for them again, because it just felt like being too greedy, and yet. Well, no one would blame me for not being 100% satisfied with a one-fic fandom, right? So here we are again!
I feel like my request covers pretty much what I want from them, and I've written about these two a lot over the years, so I'm not sure what to add! Well, my usual disclaimers about RPF stand: I don't really know anything about how these people talk (they probably talk in French! please don't write them in French even though I speak it!), I don't care about factual errors over timelines or anything, so don't stress about that. (If you do want to know about the timeline, I think they recorded the studio album first, then did a lot of press, then rehearsed, at which point neither Julie nor Patrick liked the other one very much, then played a couple of months in Paris, then in Canada, but Julie didn't do the entire tour, and then they dated for years, and they broke up the month before their wedding, and they both had babies with other people, and then the cast got back together in 2013 for a performance in Ukraine, and then who knows!)
Asking for porn is always weird because I would definitely like a fic without porn much better than a fic with porn someone forced themselves to write to please the recipient. And an effective makeout with the door closing on explicitness, with a lot of feeling behind it, can definitely work just as well for me. But, if you do like writing porn, I think it would be magnificent. Hookups against the wall right behind the scene between songs! Him thinking of her as he has sex with Lara! Fighting in rehearsals being solved by a lot of sex all over the place! Stuff that really plays up the forbidenness and how young she is!
I also adore the rest of the cast, particularly Garou and Bruno Pelletier. If you want to write a story where Julie and Patrick are in their own bubble apart from everyone because of how obsessed they are with each other, that's great! But I'd also be really into moments with the ensemble, I don't know, like conversations about the relationship, or five times the rest of the cast laughed because Patrick & Julie were definitely not as subtle as they thought they are, anything. I generally see this couple as pretty angsty (Julie has been quoted as saying that "when you're twenty, you want something that hurts, that tears you apart") but the cast seemed like a funny delightful bunch, so if you'd rather go with that aspect of it, it'd be great!

I discovered this show on Netflix and I mainlined through it really quickly, and I just kept wishing for more. I like most of the canon couples, but Fred (and Ben Feldman, let's be real) was one of my favorites, and I thought the show really suffered when he left. I loved the relationship between Jane and Fred - I thought he was supportive and managed to "guard" her without being pushy like Jake or weird like Paul, and she in turn taught him how to be more human. I'd love something shippy for them, maybe a slow-burn where Fred learns to appreciate his first adult Zero, either in Jane's world like in canon or in Fred's afterlife-y one, with Deb.
Oh, Fred. I didn't realize how much I loved him until Jane said "and my guardian angel, Luke" in that weird pasted-over voice in the intro. Like I said in the request, I love how both Jane and Fred evolve during the first three seasons, and I feel like evolving in a romantic direction would be a natural progression of their friendship. (All those late nights on the roof, looking at the city spread out at their feet? Come on.)
So I'd like a story about Fred and Jane falling in love, either during the first three seasons as we know it, or in the afterlife. In the first version, just variations on roommates falling in love, mentee becoming mentor and vice-versa, best friends falling in love, would all be A++++. It could be fun to have Fred be demoted because he kissed/had sex with his charge, and then he stays and both of them make fun of Luke and Paul. In the second idea, maybe Deb doesn't get back into Jane's body, but she needs to stay in the "elevator in the sky" space because of her being an adult 0, and Fred kind of starts to befriend her, this only non-angel person who's stuck there? Maybe they watch & comment on the stuff happening to the other characters down on Earth (maybe Grayson falls for Old Jane!), and Deb evolves as a human (or post-human, I guess). Idk, idk, I'm also fine with any other ideas! (Obviously!)
On canon romances: I liked parts of the Fred/Stacy romance - they were cute at times, and Ben Feldman singing Baby I need your loving!! - but some things really bothered me: how it turned Stacy into a huge bitch, and how Fred fell for her as soon as he saw how pretty she was. It just didn't feel in tune with the show's usual message about beauty. (I like Stacy a LOT, but we didn't see Fred fall for her because of her personnality.) So, I'd be fine with completely erasing it, or maybe Fred realizing Stacy wasn't what he wanted (without Stacy being hurt!). For Jane, I really liked Jane/Grayson, but I wasn't really sold on Jane/Owen (possibly just because he felt like another roadblock on the Jane/Grayson path). I feel like it's impossible to remove Grayson completely from any romantic story with Jane, but I'll enjoy the story if you have him be very present or not at all, I don't really care.
On explicitness: I mentioned not wanting too much explicit porn for this request earlier in the letter - it's mostly because Fred is kind of childish? And canon-ically a virgin who needs quite a bit of help in that department? So I'm not sure I'd like to read PWP about him. BUT, if you have an idea (maybe Jane needs to figure out what her new body likes, and her guardian angel offers to help, which actually helps him out too?), or if you feel like sex would really work in the story you're writing, super go for it, just add a lot of feelings and, idk, laughs and stuff. Man, now I've written this whole paragraph and I kind of want sexy stuff with them too. I AM THE WORST RECIPIENT! UNCLEAR ABOUT EVERYTHING! I JUST WANT YOU TO WRITE WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!
On spoilers: I switched from Netflix to another service just to get S6. As of writing this, I'm only three episodes in, but I feel pretty confident I'll be done by archive opening. That said, I do know about the Grayson twist in S6, so if that's necessary for your story, you can write it in. I hope this won't be too big a problem, but since I'm asking for AUs, hopefully it won't?
Other thing I would also really like: I obviously love my initial request, but I'd also really be down for some Jane/ADA Paul Saginaw. He's sexy! And they're always against each other (obviously for their job, but still pings my enemies-to-lovers radar)! I'd love a story either about them banging out their professional frustration with each other, or both of them coming to respect each other, becoming friends, and then looooovers. :D

I want to do things to Alexander Hamilton (and Lin-Manuel Miranda when he's playing Hamilton), and I'm not alone in this, so basically I'd like fic of people wanting to do Hamilton and/or doing him. I've requested Angelica, because their relationship is the one that gets me the most, but anything goes, particularly Eliza & Angelica together, or Laurens or Burr. Or everyone at the same time. Or everyone at different times. I am not fussy! But to go back Alexander/Angelica, I'd love angsty fic about Alexander and Angelica and their thwarted love throughout the years. Or happy fic where the Schuyler sisters do get Alexander to take a break, and then things happen when the night gets dark. OR all/any/none of this happening, but on Mars, as the colony revolts. (Why should a tiny planet across the sky regulate the price of chai?)
I wrote this request first, and then while I was writing the general part of this letter, I said "no AUs, please, like, no Hamilton in space" and then I realized that actually, Hamilton in space would be the total bomb. The space fandom has just been crazy this year! If this idea really works for you, awesome, and feel free to not focus on the ship(s) so much. (The romantic ships. You can focus on the space ships if you want! (I am hilarious.))
ABOUT SHIPS THOUGH. At first I asked for Alexander/Angelica/Eliza, because man, these three people were so in love. Look at what Hamilton wrote Angelica:
[Eliza and I] are all well, strongly agitated between Fear and Hope, but anxiously wishing for your Return. If you are not persuaded that this is one of the dearest objects to Eliza & myself you do us much injustice. The only rivalship we have is in our attachment to you and we each contend for preeminence in this particular. To whom will you give the apple? (x)
Hahahaha I am fine. (I am not fine.) Anyway, then I realized that most of my "prompts" were about Angelica, and I felt bad for the Eliza fans who would have offered her, but do know that I reallyyyy love the idea of an OT3. If you go that route, I'd love happier moments where the sisters do decide to share him, either sexually or emotionally. (Like I said in my request, an AU where he does take a break - and then becomes president because he never had sex with Maria Reynolds! - would be fun, but you could set this at any time.) Obviously this could mean an incestuous relationship, which personally I don't have a problem with, but feel free to make it so they never interact sexually if you are more comfortable that way - I'm more interested in the Alexander part of the triangle, how he's really starved for affection and family and belonging, how he's so into both of them, how they both love him so much, how they try to find a way to make it all work without either lady being hurt, etc.
And for just Alexander/Angelica, I'd love a series of moments where the subtext almost became text but never quite, moments like the sexy comma which consumed Angelica's waking days. ANGST! I don't think Angelica would betray her sister and have sex with her husband without Eliza's knowledge/consent, so if you do want the subtext to be text, you could either have Eliza give her blessing, or have them in a quick hook-up against the wall at the winter's ball, or just go AU and have Alexander and Angelica marry. As long as Eliza isn't made a fool of like with the whole Reynolds thing. (And please don't kill her off. Sorry, I know I'm difficult, just, Eliza! and how she told everyone's story! - I want her to be the woman replacing Alexander on the $10 bill. ♥)
And about the dudes: I feel like there will probably be a lot of Hamilton/Laurens and Hamilton/Burr fic, which is why I focussed on the women, but I'd also be down with a lot more exploration of "Laurens I like you a lot" (In spite of Schuylers black eyes, I have still a part for the public and another for you; so your impatience to have me married is misplaced; a strange cure by the way, as if after matrimony I was to be less devoted than I am now.) and Burr's obsession with Hamilton. (He [probably] had sex with Maria Reynolds! Can you say "proxy"? & I always feel that the conversation in Non-Stop is about sex somehow, like Alexander wants to do Burr again and he's like - no, we're married, we have kids now, enough. ... maybe my brain is weird. Or maybe the Federalist Papers are much sexier than I thought!) Everyone wants to have sex with Alexander Hamilton!!! Even some people in 2015!!! (Also I talk a lot about sex, but I don't require actual porn at all - feelings and closed doors and allusions are all great and I just want anything, basically.)

Oh, this cast. I never really wanted non-shippy RPF before, but now I really do? I just find them all hilarious, and talented, and I love all the interactions they have with the fans. Lin-Manuel is my favorite, with his intensity and creativity and how nice he is, how much of a fan of his cast/show he is, so that's why I requested him - but I'd be seriously into absolutely anything with anyone. Cast parties! Ham4Ham preparation! Lin writing the show and Vanessa commenting! The cast leaving for a tour (even though it probably wouldn't be the same actors, I don't care!). A thousand words of people shooting the shit and jokingly flirting! THESE PEOPLE YOU GUYS.
THESE PEOPLE. Lin-Manuel's twitter/tumblr give me life - every time I read an interview with him or just hear about it I get all excited that somebody like him is in my fandom life. (He cried while reading the Chernow biography at the first Ham4Ham!) I watched the Schuyler Georges Ham4Ham ten times in a row. Renee's part in The Hamilton Cypher kills me with greatness. I want to know if Daveed had to practice that "I mean you gotta put some thought into the letter but the sooner the better to get your right hand man back!" bit, if he messes it up sometimes, or if it's the most natural thing in the world for him. I want to know about Pippa volunteering for Eliza's organization. I want "we're in the play!" silliness. I want the Schuyler sisters harmonising. I want stories of people sharing rooms, I want stories of creating the show, I want celebrities going to see the show (the Obamas! the Clintons! or for a crack prompt: time-travelling Alexander Hamilton!). I know they probably wouldn't tour with this company, but I still want a story of tour insanity with them. I WANT IT ALL.
I don't really know any of them (as in- I don't know their lives, or how they talk, or their other projects) so if you don't want to research anything that is super fine by me, but if you do want to research a lot and give me real things I will be awed! Ths is my first real Broadway fandom so I don't know much about how a show works, & I won't notice if you pull things out of your ass.
Small DNWs for this fandom: no porn please, and don't ship Lin-Manuel with anyone else because I love his family unit (who wouldn't! would also be into a story of how he won over his high school crush! best of wives and best of women!) (stuff like kissing JGroff for the vine is, obviously, fine and hilarious). I don't think I want the cast reading fic, though interacting with fandom/fanart is fine. I'd appreciate it if you archive-locked the fic, because this cast is too fandom-savvy for its own good.

On spoilers: I switched from Netflix to another service just to get S6. As of writing this, I'm only three episodes in, but I feel pretty confident I'll be done by archive opening. That said, I do know about the Grayson twist in S6, so if that's necessary for your story, you can write it in. I hope this won't be too big a problem, but since I'm asking for AUs, hopefully it won't?
Other thing I would also really like: I obviously love my initial request, but I'd also really be down for some Jane/ADA Paul Saginaw. He's sexy! And they're always against each other (obviously for their job, but still pings my enemies-to-lovers radar)! I'd love a story either about them banging out their professional frustration with each other, or both of them coming to respect each other, becoming friends, and then looooovers. :D

I want to do things to Alexander Hamilton (and Lin-Manuel Miranda when he's playing Hamilton), and I'm not alone in this, so basically I'd like fic of people wanting to do Hamilton and/or doing him. I've requested Angelica, because their relationship is the one that gets me the most, but anything goes, particularly Eliza & Angelica together, or Laurens or Burr. Or everyone at the same time. Or everyone at different times. I am not fussy! But to go back Alexander/Angelica, I'd love angsty fic about Alexander and Angelica and their thwarted love throughout the years. Or happy fic where the Schuyler sisters do get Alexander to take a break, and then things happen when the night gets dark. OR all/any/none of this happening, but on Mars, as the colony revolts. (Why should a tiny planet across the sky regulate the price of chai?)
I wrote this request first, and then while I was writing the general part of this letter, I said "no AUs, please, like, no Hamilton in space" and then I realized that actually, Hamilton in space would be the total bomb. The space fandom has just been crazy this year! If this idea really works for you, awesome, and feel free to not focus on the ship(s) so much. (The romantic ships. You can focus on the space ships if you want! (I am hilarious.))
ABOUT SHIPS THOUGH. At first I asked for Alexander/Angelica/Eliza, because man, these three people were so in love. Look at what Hamilton wrote Angelica:
[Eliza and I] are all well, strongly agitated between Fear and Hope, but anxiously wishing for your Return. If you are not persuaded that this is one of the dearest objects to Eliza & myself you do us much injustice. The only rivalship we have is in our attachment to you and we each contend for preeminence in this particular. To whom will you give the apple? (x)
Hahahaha I am fine. (I am not fine.) Anyway, then I realized that most of my "prompts" were about Angelica, and I felt bad for the Eliza fans who would have offered her, but do know that I reallyyyy love the idea of an OT3. If you go that route, I'd love happier moments where the sisters do decide to share him, either sexually or emotionally. (Like I said in my request, an AU where he does take a break - and then becomes president because he never had sex with Maria Reynolds! - would be fun, but you could set this at any time.) Obviously this could mean an incestuous relationship, which personally I don't have a problem with, but feel free to make it so they never interact sexually if you are more comfortable that way - I'm more interested in the Alexander part of the triangle, how he's really starved for affection and family and belonging, how he's so into both of them, how they both love him so much, how they try to find a way to make it all work without either lady being hurt, etc.
And for just Alexander/Angelica, I'd love a series of moments where the subtext almost became text but never quite, moments like the sexy comma which consumed Angelica's waking days. ANGST! I don't think Angelica would betray her sister and have sex with her husband without Eliza's knowledge/consent, so if you do want the subtext to be text, you could either have Eliza give her blessing, or have them in a quick hook-up against the wall at the winter's ball, or just go AU and have Alexander and Angelica marry. As long as Eliza isn't made a fool of like with the whole Reynolds thing. (And please don't kill her off. Sorry, I know I'm difficult, just, Eliza! and how she told everyone's story! - I want her to be the woman replacing Alexander on the $10 bill. ♥)
And about the dudes: I feel like there will probably be a lot of Hamilton/Laurens and Hamilton/Burr fic, which is why I focussed on the women, but I'd also be down with a lot more exploration of "Laurens I like you a lot" (In spite of Schuylers black eyes, I have still a part for the public and another for you; so your impatience to have me married is misplaced; a strange cure by the way, as if after matrimony I was to be less devoted than I am now.) and Burr's obsession with Hamilton. (He [probably] had sex with Maria Reynolds! Can you say "proxy"? & I always feel that the conversation in Non-Stop is about sex somehow, like Alexander wants to do Burr again and he's like - no, we're married, we have kids now, enough. ... maybe my brain is weird. Or maybe the Federalist Papers are much sexier than I thought!) Everyone wants to have sex with Alexander Hamilton!!! Even some people in 2015!!! (Also I talk a lot about sex, but I don't require actual porn at all - feelings and closed doors and allusions are all great and I just want anything, basically.)

Oh, this cast. I never really wanted non-shippy RPF before, but now I really do? I just find them all hilarious, and talented, and I love all the interactions they have with the fans. Lin-Manuel is my favorite, with his intensity and creativity and how nice he is, how much of a fan of his cast/show he is, so that's why I requested him - but I'd be seriously into absolutely anything with anyone. Cast parties! Ham4Ham preparation! Lin writing the show and Vanessa commenting! The cast leaving for a tour (even though it probably wouldn't be the same actors, I don't care!). A thousand words of people shooting the shit and jokingly flirting! THESE PEOPLE YOU GUYS.
THESE PEOPLE. Lin-Manuel's twitter/tumblr give me life - every time I read an interview with him or just hear about it I get all excited that somebody like him is in my fandom life. (He cried while reading the Chernow biography at the first Ham4Ham!) I watched the Schuyler Georges Ham4Ham ten times in a row. Renee's part in The Hamilton Cypher kills me with greatness. I want to know if Daveed had to practice that "I mean you gotta put some thought into the letter but the sooner the better to get your right hand man back!" bit, if he messes it up sometimes, or if it's the most natural thing in the world for him. I want to know about Pippa volunteering for Eliza's organization. I want "we're in the play!" silliness. I want the Schuyler sisters harmonising. I want stories of people sharing rooms, I want stories of creating the show, I want celebrities going to see the show (the Obamas! the Clintons! or for a crack prompt: time-travelling Alexander Hamilton!). I know they probably wouldn't tour with this company, but I still want a story of tour insanity with them. I WANT IT ALL.
I don't really know any of them (as in- I don't know their lives, or how they talk, or their other projects) so if you don't want to research anything that is super fine by me, but if you do want to research a lot and give me real things I will be awed! Ths is my first real Broadway fandom so I don't know much about how a show works, & I won't notice if you pull things out of your ass.
Small DNWs for this fandom: no porn please, and don't ship Lin-Manuel with anyone else because I love his family unit (who wouldn't! would also be into a story of how he won over his high school crush! best of wives and best of women!) (stuff like kissing JGroff for the vine is, obviously, fine and hilarious). I don't think I want the cast reading fic, though interacting with fandom/fanart is fine. I'd appreciate it if you archive-locked the fic, because this cast is too fandom-savvy for its own good.
