FINALISED INFORMATION FOR THE CLAIM-A-CHALLENGE
myriadwords INAUGURAL YOUNG WIZARDS CHALLENGE: everything you needed to know (hopefully!), including deadline, word limit, and challenge format is here!
1. When’s the Deadline?
August 31st, 2005.
2. What’s the Word Length?
The minimum word requirement is 100-500 words; but submissions exceeding this are more than welcome, indeed preferable.
3. How exactly is Claim-A-Challenge going to work?
Challenge submissions will be requested from participants and anyone else who would like to suggest a challenge; the idea is to get a lot of challenge ideas which will then be collated into a list. This list will be posted on a particular date and participants will claim a challenge on a first-come, first served basis.
4. What are the challenges going to look like? How do I submit a challenge?
The challenges will have a specific format. Each challenge must have either
-a theme or thematic quote
-OR a scenario.
The challenge can also specify two of the following:
-character
-pairing
-setting
-time period.
What’s a theme? What’s a scenario? What’s the difference? A theme is technically described as the main, repeating idea of a work. More poetically, "Plot is what the story is about. Theme is what the story is really about." A scenario suggests elements of the plot; a theme, then, suggests elements of the meaning.
Sample Challenge:
Theme: "What’s loved, lives."
Character: Harry Callahan
Time Period: During A Wizard’s Holiday.
OR
Scenario: What happened on Tom and/or Carl’s Ordeal?
Pairing: Genfic please!
Setting: Brooklyn, 1975.
Whether you sign up or not, you will be able to suggest challenges in an upcoming post! Many challenges are needed for this to work properly, so all submissions will be gratefully received.
5. Will you accept art as well?
Yes! Love it! :D
6. Is there are rating limit? What pairings are acceptable?
As in the community guidelines, any and all pairings are acceptable, including het, slash and gen. All ratings will be accepted for fic AS LONG AS IT IS CORRECTLY RATED/WARNED in the header.
7. Is there a posting format?
Sure is!

Note (if desired):
8. What’s Canon?
Books 1-7 of the Young Wizards Series; Uptown Local; both Feline Wizards novels. Your fic can focus on any of the characters, concepts or scenarios in these, but you do NOT need to have read all the books to write. With this in mind, if you’re writing a story from, say, Holiday and mention key plot elements, make sure to include that in your spoiler warning. Use your own discretion about what consists of a spoiler.
9. You didn’t answer my question! Who can I contact? Who’s running this?
labellementeuse is running this challenge and furthermore maintains this community. If you want to contact me with any questions, drop a comment here or in my journal, or email me at labellementeuse(at)gmail(dot)com.
And THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION OF ALL:
10. Where do I sign up?
I’m so glad you asked! ;) Sign ups will open in less than 24 hours, and will run probably until late Sunday; the sign-up post will be linked to here when it opens.
I really hope many of you will give this a try; it should be lots of fun with very little pressure.
(PS: many, many thanks to those who have helped me get this set up, work the kinks out of the challenge, and sort some sort of order out of my babble. <3)
