Theme: "errance" (french-the act of wandering around; losing yourself by escaping to an unfamiliar place or just by dreaming; aimlessness)
Some thematic ideas/examples:

Travel (Doctor Who, Lost, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, LOTR/The Hobbit)
Fantasy (Harry Potter, Abhorsen series, mythology, science fiction)
Moments of despair, of feeling lost, of daydreaming, of contemplation

Some stylistic ideas for graphics:
Using gradients to achieve a fading effect
Showing isolation through (extreme) negative space
Using textures to obscure certain parts of the icon/graphic
Strong contrast between shadows and light
Blurry/dreamy effects using light textures, filters, and blending
Close crops of emotional scenes
