Exploring

Claire has impulse control problems.

X had just declared to all and sundry, "Hey, neat place over here!" So of course, she went to go and look around.

She walks into Myriad Square, slightly befuddled by how many people are already in this unexplored space, and starts looking for somebody who sells maps.

X is also in the square, sitting on the bench near the fountain. Despite him wearing civillian clothes, he's not that hard to recognize - if only because of the ammount of blue colors in his outfit and his regular appearances in the Nexus.

He seems to be occupied with typing on his datapad, but one could probably get his attention easily if they'd try.

"Hey, man," Claire says, walking up. "X, right?"

"...Hm?" X responds almost immediately, looking up from his datapad. He takes several seconds to observe the girl in front of him, trying to recognize her... Before he finally speaks, a friendly expression on his face. "Yeah, that's me. You're... From the Nexus, right?"

"That's where we know each other from, yeah."

Claire takes a second to look around at the skyline. "Nice find. Have you found or made a map yet?"

"Thought so..." X nods slightly, smiling. "And yeah, I did. The local bookstore sells tons of them... It's over there, really hard to miss. Especially because of that blue Mu creature that is working there."

He straightens up slightly, pointing in to the right - and, indeed, there's a bookstore there. The huge, old-fashioned sign with an opened book engraved into it makes it nearly impossible to miss.

"A warning, though... Those maps only give you the core of the central district and the basics of the others - no important locations aside of this square and the Cathedral. Seems like we'll have to detail our own maps - this place is inhabited, but complex enough to keep even the locals from designing a complete map."

"...you know, I hate it when you ask somebody for help and the answer turns out to be really obvious."

Claire walks into the bookstore and buys a map, then comes back out. She has a handful of change she doesn't recognize and an old-fashioned roadmap on what looks like vellum.

"Wow, this says 'Here Be Dragons.'"

"Yeah, it says a lot of crazy things... The flavor of crazy being dependant on the district." He chuckles slightly, before rising off the sit and approaching Claire - the datapad quickly deactivated and gone into the armor. "But I prefer to not go that far yet... If we don't want to get lost in this place, we'd better start small. For example..."

He walks close enough to see the map over Claire's shoulder, and then reaches out to tap on one of the locations on the map - a building in the Central District, marked 'The Cathedral'.

"...This place."

Claire raised an eyebrow at "we," but let it pass. "Sounds cool. Any idea what it is?"

Little do they realise that Joe Higashi was there, feelin' exhilirated that he escaped the Nuns... hopefully...

(( You could post on Joe's thread if ya like, or if yer going there. :-) ))

"I've asked the people around here and I think I've grasped the basic concept of it." X seems to not pay attention at the raised eyebrow - after all, he didn't mean anything aside of not wanting people to be hurt by this place after he introduced them to it.

"It seems that the building's enchanted. It doesn't look too big from the outside, but the inside... Endless corridors, locked doors, sometimes even monsters. A huge magical maze. Not too hard to get out from, though - there's always an exit door nearby." He pauses for a moment, looking away from the map and at Claire - as if to check that she didn't lose track of conversation - and then continues. "And according to everyone, it's still relatively unexplored. Tons of stuff we can find and use... As long as we manage to make it through whatever dangers are in there."

Claire's been paying attention, yeah. She likes "maze," she's not quite sure about "monsters," but she's definitely curious.

"Huh." She pats herself down, checking to see what she's carrying. "I suppose it's worth looking at. I'm not really equipped for anything serious, though."

"Neither am I, which is why I'm not rushing with it." He shrugs slightly, gesturing to himself - the casual clothes definately not looking like reploid armor. "It's just an idea on where to start exploring this place's more unique corners... And as far as preparations go, I'd rather gather a group of at least four or five people. You know, the size of a usual exploration team."

"Who'd you have in mind?"

"Well, I haven't been making any big decisions... But I do have several people in mind. The girl I share my appartment with is having no luck with work lately, Nate Grey is always up for a good adventure, as well... So I think I could find a person or two to share the first exploration with." He shrugs slightly. "What about you? Anyone you think we could invite?"

She thought about it for a second. Her first instinct was to say Leon, but Leon had an actual job he needed to show up at.

"I guess we could ask around in the Nexus and see if any of the poor kids want to tag along. That aquakinetic girl was talking about how she needed money.

"I'm not talking about issuing a casting call or anything, but maybe keeping our ears open.

"Otherwise, I can't think of anyone who'd be up for something like this... except maybe Terry Bogard."

"Yeah, we could... Or I could always give people I know a call through their online journals." X is rather calm about the topic. Clearly, he doesn't think that gathering a group for this one would be as hard as it seems at first. "Either way, I think we could gather a group within a week if we'd try. With the kind of folk that hang out in the Nexus, at least."
