It is just after midnight, so I am writing about yesterday. Trenna and I went out for lunch, which was enjoyable in itself. While we were eating I noticed a 'Godfrey's' store on the other side of the road, and I was finally able to purchase a new bucket for my squeeze mop; I actually bought a 2nd one as a spare. (If you have been reading my blog for a while you may remember that Kojak wrecked both mop and bucket when he cleaned the kitchen). I have been trying to replace the bucket ever since; for some reason they are not available, or at least not until today.
After this we went to Clive Peeters, as it is the only store in town that stocks the latest Kenwood food processor. My Breville has finally expired this time. After researching on the internet I came to the conclusion that this brand might be the only one that would serve me well. The only problem with shopping at this store is that my son Anthony works there, and since he doesn't wish to know me I prefer not to risk confronting him. More of that in a minute. We were looking at the food processors when Trenna said "There is Anthony just ahead of us". I turned back to look at another food processor in the hope of him moving away before he spotted me. So far, so good. However, I needed a sales assistant to advise me on my purchase, and having got in there I found they had 3 different models of the food processor, and I was trying to decide which would be the best for my purpose. I think 2 of them were possibly remaindered models, as they were only $229 each.
The store seemed to be surprisingly short staffed, possibly due to the economic downturn, and the only person who could advise me was serving another customer, so we were led over to a very large screen TV, where we sat on a couch while someone went off and got us a coffee. We were there for ages, and eventually the same person came back with the boxes for the 3 different models, for me to look at whilst we waited some more. Of course, poor Anthony came past and had to acknowledge me. I was really happy to see him, as it has been years, but I felt dreadfully sorry for him as it was obviously a very difficult situation, but who knows? Perhaps the lines of communication will be re-opened eventually.
Following this encounter I finally was served, and decided to go for the newest model, which was on sale for $429. Without me even having to ask to haggle the sales assistant went off to consult her boss and came back with an offer of $389, which I was happy to accept. Having got this item home I am staggered by all the accessories. First, a blender which works on the same power base, a built in electronic scale so that you can weigh directly into the processor goblet, plus a weighing plate which you can rest on the power base if you prefer this method, 1 knife blade tool and also a dough tool, a twin beater geared whisk for light mixes (cream, egg whites, etc.), a maxi-blend canopy so that you can use a greater quantity of liquid without having it leak, 4 slicing/shredding discs, one of which is for grating hard cheese, a citrus press, a mill for coffee beans, a mini processor bowl, a centrifugal juicer, and a storage carousel for attachments. I'm impressed. I already have a juicer, a blender and a grinder - they have just become redundant as the motor with the food processor is 1,000 watts and has to be stronger than the motors in those appliances. If you were fitting out a kitchen for the first time I doubt if you would need much else, except for a toaster and kettle.
Having completed our mission at Clive Peeters we then went on to K&D, and while Trenna returned an item she had bought I found another 2 roses I couldn't live without, so altogether it was an excellent day, and everyone was smiling, except of course Anthony.
