The Divisive Nature of the Democratic Party

Feb 12, 2007 07:09

Y'know... if Obama and Hillary were to unite, with one of them stooping to take the Vice-Presidential position right now, their combined power would be far greater than the sum of their influence. I think the one to bow would naturally be Hillary... she just doesn't have much to show for her time as Senator. Especially, after her own constituency was hit in the 9/11 attack, and on her watch. It was her big opportunity to rise to the occasion, and she did very little that I can identify as "Presidential." Mayor Giuliani, on the other hand? He is a force to be reckoned with, and you will see more of him in the gladitorial combat of the 2008 election process.

If Jesse Jackson and Michael Dukakis would have united twenty years ago, they might have beat out the first George Bush. They didn't. Dukakis asked Jackson to "step down" and prevent a division of the Democratic party, but it was too little, too late. Doomed to failure by the lack of a more politically inspired, unifying strategy.

But it would be silly to expect such a thing. Unity. It is their lack of cohesive, well-considered doctrine and action which cripples the Democrats more than their opponents.
