Hildegard von Bingen

I have lately become enamored by the music of Hildegard von Bingen. A renaissance woman, in the sense of genius, talent and being a person out of her time, a millenium ago. She and her works blossomed, in the times just following the Dark Ages. She was a woman of influence and renown, in an age and culture where women were always second to men. She held the ears of Kings and Popes.

Music was, by far, not her only talent, but the melodies she produced were haunting, beautiful, ethereal. They linger in the air, long after they have finished playing. With them, she admitted attempting to recapture the beauty of Paradise.

I think, in part, she succeeded. Even now, my eyes are watering and defocusing as I continue to listen...

morsels, endorsement, music
