Thanx for all your concern

As many of you know New Jersey's budget is officially fucked. Because of this there has been a government shutdown and all non-essential employees sent home. Some of the employees that are considered non-essential are those that work for the Casino Control Commission and the Division of Gaming Enforcement. Without these people, the casino gaming floors aren't allowed to operate.

All weekend I've been having people ask me if I still have a job. I do. Just because the gaming floor is closed doesn't mean the casino is. There's still the hotel side of things, the restaurants and other outlets, and the entertainment. All that stuff still has computers that still need to be backed up, monitored, and fixed when they don't work right. So unlike some of my friends, that I am concerned for, I will still have a job throughout this shutdown.

It was kinda weird walking out of the building today and seeing the floor empty, but funny in a way. Even though nobody was playing the slot machines, you could still hear the sound of coins being paid out. You see the clink and chink of coins is piped in with the muzak to make players think that there is winning going on. Clever huh?

Tonight will be an interesting night. There has never been a shutdown like this before, so nobody really knows what to do and even though the floor is closed, the backup still needs to be done for record keeping, and accounting purposes, but we don't know how exactly the system will be turned over to us, and the date will be rolled to the next gaming day without people working in the casino cage.
