Tell me why you're here and who you are.

I need something else in my life other then work and school. Now that I have more time, I'm finding I watch a lot of T.V. And I'm bored.

I hate the word hobby. Hobbies are for little old ladies. I want an interest, a passion, a purpose. In high school I had drama and church, then the youth group. Not to mention that I was writing in a notebook ( Read more... )

Hobby is not a bad word. I have plenty of hobbies, and I am neither little nor old. Mind you, most of my hobbies are not things that you're really interested in, but I think you've got something with that writing gig. See if you can't weasel into a creative writing class next semester, they've got some pretty good professors teaching it over at MCC if you do end up transfering there. Obviously I've got no info pertaining to OCC.

But you don't need passions, you need things to keep you occupied. Is 40k, or video games a passion for me? You could argue that D&D is something of a passion, because if it was just a hobby I wouldn't be making money off it (even just the little bit I have). The thing about passions is that you aren't going to know if something is a passion until you try it, and if you're afraid that you won't be passionate about something so you don't try it, you're going to watch a hell of a lot of TV I think.

Find things that are fun, that keep you occupied, and if you get something that you really latch onto, then awesome, but if much of it is just something to do that you enjoy, then that's good too.

And as to the writing, even if you can't swing a creative writing class or something, borrow Erik's The Writer's Way and give it a read. The thing about seriously writing is that you have to do it a lot, or you lose it, especially if you have writer's block. Writing down your dreams, keeping a journal, writing each and every stupid thing that you think down is the Draino to writer's block, nothing else (short of massive, life changing events) is going to get rid of it.
