Ode to Fandom...

It's a weird pain, the pain of missing a fandom.

Ah I miss seeing you around so much- it was lovely getting to know you for a little bit there.
At least I still get to see your art around the place from time to time, so there's still that :)

I think I got a bit burnt out, you know? Not in doing the drawings, but in the reception of them, and same goes for people seeing them. I also have a history of sticking around for way too long in a lot of situations, so I wanted to leave before everyone else did. But now it's just sad.

I miss you too! I'll try and be back a bit more I think.

Yeah, no I understand that. It's hard when you are creating fandom based artwork without the fandom there to support it.
It's a tricky one, because on one hand you're making it for yourself, but largely you're making it to share with others- so when that gets no feedback...

It'd be nice to hear more from you :)

Yeah. I mean, I know I was really lucky to get a lot more comments than, say, a lot of writers do. But no matter what, it's hard when you're used to a certain amount and that amount starts to steadily drop.

Do you get my messages on tumblr every once in awhile? I posted a poll, about shaggydog_swap, FYI... :D

I think I'm lucky in that I had my original work to fall back on in that situation? Because at least my work is then in some way getting love and feedback. It's stops me stressing about whether anyone likes my fandom stuff, y'know?
I'll just have to pledge to write you essay long comments in future ;) You know I have it in me-

Yeah I do, thankyou for them! Tumblr is just so rubbish with replies, and I just don't want to clutter mine up posting replies. Rest assured that they make me very happy and they ARE appreciated all the same

I've done it! (I'd be happy to help with mod duties if you need it- though you'd have to show me the ropes first)

Yeah, for sure. I think the thing that always motivated me were the comments - that's why I did fanart, because it's this amazing built-in audience. And God, I definitely improved leaps and bounds because I had that audience. I love the idea of being able to draw something, get a ton of comments on what people like, and then draw another one focusing on the things people liked, and I got SO much better. Like Hands, for example. Everyone loved the hands I drew, so I kept drawing hands, and then I looked back at my first drawing, and their hands, and they were AWFUL. Really, it all forced me to practice, because I wanted to draw more and get more comments. lol.

Ugh, yeah, fuck Tumblr replies.

\o/ I may take you up on that. :D It's not hard.

It makes sense, doesn't it. And I mean, you're right, you need that feedback to motivate you and make you get better.
I have to say though, it was the best feeling when my original art DA account became far more popular that my fanart one. It was sort of like, okay, I'm doing something right.
But that is the best things about fandom, the fact that it is (or should be) just this huge supportive network of people who all have one love in common. I think there's something really lovely about that.

Okayyy! Be gentle with me sensei~
