[Act 10: Painted Butterfly]
When I was a kid, my known mother used to tag me along on buying groceries. She usually gives me an ice cream for a present. One time, when choosing a flavor, my mother had to return back at the grocery because she forgot to buy our toiletries. She left me, thinking that it would take a while for me to make my choice. I turned back and cried when I noticed she’s gone. I walked around, still sobbing. I sat at the empty playground that we passed a short while ago. There I saw a kid, staring at a little flower. A pen and paper were on his hands. When he saw me, well my noisiness disturbed him I know, he looked at me with his drained eyes. He picked the flower, bookmarked it into his collection of sketches and walked unto me.
“Why are you crying?” he asked.
“Okasan… Okasan’s gone…” water dripped unto my eyes.
He kissed me, “It stopped.”
I quickly wiped my lips, “Are… are you a gay? Why did you do that?”
“You’re annoying,” he scratched his head. “My mother used to kiss me when I’m crying. When she does, the pain will stop same with my tears.”
I was struck by his expression. The warmness that I felt, it’s indescribable, “Where is she now?”
“Gone… to the sky…” that boy fell on my eyes, his shaking hands grasped on his chest.
“What… does it hurt? Your chest… does it hurt?” I moved closer to him.
“The pain… it won’t go away…” he cried.
I looked at him with pitiful eyes. No one would comfort him against pain anymore. The sky took his mother away so I, at least, wanted to kiss him.
“What?” his shocked eyes were stranded unto me.
“Does it still hurt?” my worried feelings reached him.
“It’s different so maybe that’s why… It still but… thank you,” he smiled.
My mother came, she’s crying like I did before. We left that kid. I wonder who’s going to pick him up. A promise was made. I’ll never forget that promise…
“See you again!” we waved at each other.
However, we never see each other again not until… few days ago. His expression, I’ll never forget. Ruki’s the kid I saw that time and the one seating closest to the stage. We grew up. I wonder how he has been. Thinking about that, I entered the dressing room.
“Uruha!” Kai walked towards me.
“I’m nervous for the play,” I answered.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine besides, Aoi’s there!” hearing those words, I directed my gaze to the man beside the two of us on that room. He gave me a brief bow. “Shin’s absent for two days. Do you know what happened?”
His consolation didn’t help, knowing that fact, Aoi’s the one that making me nervous the most. “Shin, I wonder what he’ll do if he’ll know everything,” Uruha whispered to himself as memories flashed back once again.
Last day…
“Ruki, could I see my mother and my brother?”
“I send them abroad.”
“What?”
“Why are you angry? They have the best medication for your mother. They’ll treat your brother too. Soon, he’ll return into normal.”
Uruha received an unexpected kindness. “You could at least have told me what you’re planning,” he mumbled.
“I explained everything. I told them that you’ll be working for me from now on. Your brother didn’t want to go first but soon he understood that he have to. He wanted to be cured after all,”
Uruha could only give Ruki a look, “Ruki, why do you do this?”
“It’s because… you’re special.”
It’s not like I’m numb of his feelings for me. It’s just that I couldn’t answer the same. He’s special to me too. It’s a fact but these feelings that I have for Aoi, it’s just that it keeps eating every piece of me. In the end, I could just only wish that I’ll learn to love him. I don’t want to be hurt anymore, at least, not by Aoi.
“No, I don’t know anything about Shin.”
“Hmmm… Ah, I should check the others. Go dress up now. Just ask Aoi for help.”
“Wait…” he walked away not finishing my words. I’m afraid to turn back. I’m afraid to face the first person I ever made love with.
“Uruha…” he closed the door.
I walked away, trying so hard to avoid any contact unto him.
“Uruha!” he came nearer.
“We have to prepare for the play. Let’s hurry up.” I pretended to fix something then grabbed my costume.
“I know but I…” I could feel his heartbeat on my back as he hugged me. “Let me go Aoi. Whatever you’re planning, it just won’t work anymore,” I said calmly.
“There’s no plan. Falling in love with you wasn’t on my plan, Uruha. How… how could you pretend that nothing happened after we… You said you love me!”
“Fuck, Aoi!” I pushed him but his hold won’t disappear, “Shut the fuck and let me go! Am I the one that’s pretending that nothing happened? Enough is enough! Just let me be alone!”
“I can’t!” Aoi’s embrace went tighter. “Do you hate me now? You like me, right? Is it just a lie? It wasn’t, right? I love you, Uruha!”
“After everything that happened… how could you say those things? You’re the worst Aoi! Why… why won’t you stop? I hate you!”
Aoi turned Uruha, he kept shaking the blonde one, “Liar! Just tell me your true feelings! You hate me? Do you love me?”
“I hate you, didn’t you hear that?”
“Uruha!” Aoi’s shout echoed inside the room.
“What? I hate you! I hate you!”
“Liar!”
“Fine! I still love you! That’s why I hate myself! I hate you!” Uruha finally escaped his hold. “I’ll go to other’s dressing room.”
Aoi smiled on Uruha’s back. The door banged.
The play started. The room was covered with dark. The exchange of words went well. The acts were perfect. It’s hard to imagine but the two did their best, forget everything between them. It’s not for their own sake but for the class. For Uruha, it’s one of his last memories of school. He wanted it to be special as it could. The last scene was about to appear, it’s the sweetest lie they’ll do. Cinderella walked closer to her prince.
“I love you…” Uruha uttered.
“I do too,” Aoi grabbed his waist. His hand cupped Uruha’s face.
“Will they do it?” one of their classmates asked backstage.
“It’s just a fake after all. They just have to pretend but their lips don’t actually have to touch each other. The curtains are going to close after all.”
“Ah I see…” they’re all shock when Aoi actually did kiss Uruha, for real.
The curtains closed. The play ended. It’s fun, interesting, and surprising. Aoi’s sudden act received a great response from the audience. Uruha, on the other hand, was frozen. Aoi did catch him off-guard again.
Uruha was seating in front of mirror, caressing his soft lips. Aoi kissed him again, unexpectedly. He gave his hair a brief scratch as he remembered the day on the warehouse when they actually made love with each other. He lost sight of his surrounding, didn’t notice the man who approached him from behind. Someone’s chest leaned on his back, a skin touching his hand crawled, and the reflection in the mirror shocked him. A man with a pierced-lip came.
“Did that kiss work? Do you hate me? Do you like me?”
Uruha stood up from his seat and gave Aoi a punch, “My patience is running out.”
Aoi suddenly threw everything that laid on the mirror’s desk. Everything was thrown, he let Uruha sit on the empty space. His hands locked the other from moving.
“That’s my line. My patience is running out, Uruha” their eyes leveled with each other. “What do you want me to do unto you?” their lips now touched each other.
Uruha bit him. “Leave me alone! That would be perfect!”
Aoi wiped the blood that escaped his lips, “You love me, then why?”
“I don’t… I don’t want to… I want to love Ruki not you!”
“Ruki?”
“You… I couldn’t understand you! You’re kind but you’ll suddenly become mean! I don’t know which face of you is real…”
“Uruha… Ruki… is he… Uruha, the only thing that you have to understand is that these feelings that I have for you is…”
“You’re touching someone that’s mine,” Aoi’s shocked of the voice’s reflection.
“It’s nice to see that you’re doing fine, Aoi.”
“Ruki… Reno…” Uruha just remembered that the two went with him.
“You two… what are you doing here?” Aoi had the clueless face.
“Uruha, hurry up and come here. We’re going home.”
“You… is it possible that the two of you… know each other?” Uruha looked at Aoi and Ruki.
Ruki’s steps scared everyone. He grabbed Uruha’s arm and pulled him, “I said we’re going home!”
“Ruki… that hurts…”
Aoi grabbed Uruha’s other arm. Ruki stopped the moment he saw Aoi touched the other, “You heard him, right? He said it hurts.” Aoi looked at him.
Ruki returned the look. His eyes were frightening, “Remove your filthy hands on him!” Aoi won’t move.
Uruha was scared. He shook his arm away from Aoi. He tried to pull Ruki, “Let’s go, now. Ruki, you’re probably tired, aren’t you?”
Ruki turned back, following Uruha. “Don’t come near to Uruha anymore or else…”
“Or else what, Ruki?”
“I’ll kill you… for real!”
Uruha couldn’t understand anything. He just looked at the two. Reno won’t bother to interfere. Uruha didn’t knew the nightmare that was about to come.
