Oh, exciting... cancer has kinda interrupted my life for the last several months. But I might be over it if my test comes back clean. Whee. How about you?

After I replied, I went to hey.nu and read the thread about your being in the hospital... I'm really sorry. It sounds like you have a lot of doctors who know what they're doing. It's strange, just last week there was a segment on Talk of the Nation about dealing with cancer and it was fascinating. When do you find out on this latest test?

I get my PET/CT test (the important tell-all test) on the 5th. It'll take a few days to a week to be read and processed. So I hope to know by the 10th or so.

So are you waiting in the hospital until then?

No, thankfully I've been out of the hospital for some time now. I do go back several times a week for blood testing and other appointments. They're keeping a close eye on me. It's super expensive, but I think it's worth it.

Yeah, it's definitely worth it in the long run.

Where are you working now? I gathered that you moved from Seattle and I read briefly about disability allowing you to work 20 hours in Kansas?

I've passed the $150,000 mark quite awhile ago. I might be around $175k by now. Yikes.

Disability and Medicaid have both declined me any help, so their limits don't mean anything anymore. And I don't have insurance, so I'm pretty much out in the cold on this. I've got big bills and I've gotta pay for it all out of my pocket. So much for our healthcare system.

Geez... Did you have insurance in Seattle? Cuz if you did, I think there is the COBRA program that allows you to be covered on your previous health insurance until you get a new one.

I did, but I couldn't afford to pay the several hundred a month for COBRA. I figured I was a healthy young guy that could wait a little while for insurance. Bah. On the upside, I got a call from Social Security today that makes it sound like I might get approved after all. Let's hope!
