Helle is kind of like the original Cinderella, forced to live with an evil-stepmother determined to get rid of her and an apparently, fairly clueless father. After her birth mother was sent away, she stopped being a carefree little girl. She became quiet and timid to avoid getting any notice from Ino (the evil stepmother). She loved her father but figured out early on the control Ino seemed to have over him. Despite all her love, she was too scared to trust him. While at home, Phrixos was the only one she trusted and clung to him for protection. He raised her mostly, and when she was young she was kind of a tomboy.

Despite her lonely upbringing, she was still a princess. Helle expects a certain standard of the people around her. She can handle rudeness and being ignored, but at least (if you do) talk to her do it with respect. She’s also rather grossed out by bad hygiene.

She never really had a female figure to look up to, Nephele was gone too soon and Ino didn’t care for her, leaving her lost whenever she has to deal with female issues. Her lesson on how to deal with emotions were all picked up from her brother. Even after living for a few years as a goddess, free of her family, she finds it hard to speak up if something upsets her. She’ll express herself in action rather than with words. So when she gets angry, she’ll yell and probably throw a few punches. In the sea, the waters around her turned dangerous to anyone trying to cross them. But she doesn’t hold onto grudges and soon enough she’ll be back, all smiles.

Helle’s near-death experience has given her a new appreciation for life. She was sure she was going to die when she slipped off the ram. Now she's willing to try anything at least once, and will never shy away from a challenge. Though she might sometimes panic and need a little convincing to do it.

Part of her from birth is a nymph, she loves being free (and after watching her own family, never ever wants to be married, partly because she doesn’t feel worthy to have so much of one person’s attention but mainly because she doesn't want to be trapped with one person.) She’s also a bit spacey and can easily become lost in her own thoughts. Becoming a goddess helped her relearn how to enjoy herself without worrying about what others thought. She especially loves to dance by herself (she gets uncomfortable if someone else is watching).

Getting attention from Poseidon was the biggest ego boost of her life (being a goddess and having people sacrifice to her is a really close second), and she is finally starting to accept that people may actually find her attractive and interesting. She's not really used to it yet though so any attention from a stranger and she’ll immediately get shy and awkward again. If they’re patient, she’ll open up fairly quickly. She can be very naïve. Ino hated her openly, not in a sneaky-behind-her-back way, so if someone expresses interest or care, Helle won’t expect them to turn on her.

Was it...Was it all a dream then? Am I really...dead now?

[there's a pause and those might be sniffles you're hearing]

What a silly afterlife this is. The stories always sounded so much better.

» Sample Roleplay:
Wind whipped her hair back and forth, tangling it in on itself and threatening to block her vision. It numbed her fingers but she barely noticed. She wanted to go higher, to be in the clouds with her mother, to see the entirety of this weird place. From the roof, she couldn't see any water. Only buildings looming over her. She had never been so separate from water, even as a little girl the sea had been close by.

When she was young and had wanted to escape she had a special hill she would go to there she could hear her mother and the other nephelae on the wind, but here only horns echoed up from below, carried on the wind like voices from some dark underworld creature. The clouds seemed impossibly high, as if scared or disgusted by this strange world. And then there were the strange smells which carried the teasing hint of salt. It was enough to remind her of home where she'd had the sea to live in, instead of a small room thrust on her by a crabby old man calling himself Cronus.

She squeezed her eyes shut to hold back tears. She was stronger then that now. Her world had changed before and she had lived. She wanted Poseidon or Phrixus or Krios, someone to hold onto that she knew. She sniffled again and thought she had the tears under control as she stepped back. Helle focused on the terrible smells and the weird noises and the strange color of the sky and decided inside was safer.

Still, when she opened her mouth to take a breath, a sob came out.
