[River is sitting, in the open and in broad daylight, on the bridge crossing the River, and staring intently at the water]

.......I don't think the quiet helps much.

[ And Robin, feeling the urge to stretch her legs, wanders along and comes across River staring at .. her namesake apparently! Pause. ]
That depends on what you use the quiet for.

...Why is a Raven like a Writing-desk?

[She tilts her head ever so slightly to look back at Robin with a, "What're ya gonna do with that" look on her face]

[ Answer it with a smile, of course. Just, in her way. ]
They lack variety, they are flat and rather like Southbirds, never face the wrong way.

A better question would be when are they not like writing desks?

Circular definition; a definition that is circular.. A Raven isn't a Writing-desk unless given the human conceptualization of anthropomorphic tendencies. The better question is, 'why do you perceive a Raven is like a Writing-desk?'

[She looks at the water again] I suppose I'd have to quantify tarts as well then..

They do have similar qualities, I find. Even without the anthromorphic tendencies. [ What a strange girl. ] Do you find it necessary to do such a thing often?

...I fixed the bible once.

[Her face goes distant at that, like she's sifting through lost memories]

[ .. it's like she speaks in riddles or code. Robin thoughtfully moves to sit down at the water's edge about an arm's length from the girl, giving her her space. ]
Is that so?
[ Watching the girl carefully too - she loves riddles and enigmas and you are certainly all of that, River. ]

So-so.. [She smiles oddly for a moment] Orange Catholics. Why do you suppose they like that, hmm?

Orange Catholics..?
Perhaps they favor the color.

Favor! Exactly! They show it unto the things that have no thought to show the thoughts of those who are favored upon. [She smiles]

...Orange didn't deserve it though.

Perhaps that might be so, but there is no change for it, I imagine. What is done is done.

[ She tilts her head. Hrm. Was that a code to conclude a conversation? ]
I mean you cannot change what has happened in the past.

The effects of the present alters everything on a time-web.. People seem to caught up in the future.

[She eyes her again] Do you want to change your past?

[ That.... is actually a sore point with her. Something that haunts her, constantly. If she could... ]

... were I able to do such a thing, I would never have met the companions I have today.

Our past, good or bad, is what makes us who we are. Despite everything... I would not wish to tamper with what has already happened.
