A Monkey King's Burden

A 美猴王's Burden

I don't know what's bugging Zai but I really feel that there's something going on that would explain his curious behavior. In local parlance, madaming issues si Zai...

Last week, while he was chatting at the ungodly hour of 3am with his Vicpower 朋友們, someone asked him if there are any questions he would like to ask his fans since we're usually the ones who ask him questions. So he posted this:

What do you like about me?

Bakit ayaw nyo kay Barbie?

Note: I deliberately posted the second question in our language...

A lot of fans answered him. Take note that most of the fans who were online at that time were Americans and I'm sure that most of them answered straight to the point without any hesitations. But a moderator deleted Zai's messages and the fans' replies because of Vicpower's golden rule: no discussion of Zai's personal life. Madugo kasi ang diskusyon ng kanyang pribadong buhay! It's also a foolproof measure to avoid catfights.

I was so surprised when I found out about such incident. I actually thought that he had no idea about his fans' sentiments. But in a way, I am glad that he knows. I've noticed that most of the fans are tiptoeing around him and they are very careful not to hurt his feelings. A friend of mine who understands Chinese told me that the atmosphere in Vicpower has indeed changed. It seems as if everyone is so conscious of what they post for fear of hurting or offending him. And their concerns are really not baseless.

Zai is so conscious of what the fans are feeling. He tries so hard to please everyone, to accommodate each request. At first, it's really flattering to know that he cares so much about our feelings, that he wants to establish a personal relationship with us.

However, after the recent incidents, I feel that he must step back from the crazy world of fan discussions and fan sites. I'm guessing that it can really be addicting to read the fans' posts and praises. Add to that Zai's inherent addiction to the Internet.

But he must realize that no matter how thankful he is for the support of the fans, we are just his FANS. He shouldn't spoil us. He shouldn't try to please everyone. And most of all, he shouldn't seek validation from his fans because he doesn't owe us anything. Doing his best in his work should be enough for us.

One fan (舞啦啦在) posted this:
聯盟給仔帶來無窮無盡的動力,但聯盟不要成為仔的負擔,就算是甜蜜的也不要

Rough translation: The main goal of Dong Li Lian Meng (Vicpower) is to support him and provide the “power” for him to do his best. BUT he shouldn’t be burdened by his feeling of “utang na loob.”
+1 (to imitate the posts of the JMs whenever they agree with someone :P)

I admit I have a lot of personal issues with his current relationship. But even if I still cannot accept her, I had already accepted that I have no right to question his decision. It's his personal life. As long as our Monkey King is happy and well, I am already satisfied.

PS,
Congrats to all the successful bar examinees! You guys rock! ^______^
