There were moments when she thought that this was all that they had: Black and white photographs from a time when they had still needed to sit in place for ages to have a single shot taken. Documents that turned yellow at the ages and were long since history. Memories of days long gone.
That were the days when only imagining that he had always been gay, that it certainly wasn't about her, that on the other hand she had been important enough to him to at least try a relationship, kept her going. Japan's comics were of much help.
7. Present - That is us

“How did they get to that conclusion?”
Belgium and Luxembourg looked up from their morning procedures. None of the siblings was an early waker, and thus their breakfast usually passed in silence. This was far enough out of the order to pay immediate attention to it, especially in times like this. It might be an approaching cold, again.
“What conclusion, brother?”
“Be-Ne-Lux.”
“...”
“The order. I'm the manliest, and strongest, and coolest, and tallest, and”
“- most stoned one.” Belgium added, going back to reading her newspaper.
“-yeah, that too. I should come first.”
Luxembourg shrugged. “It's “Ladies First”, apparently.”
A/N: I'm not sure if it is that way everywhere, but where I'm from Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg are usually referred to as an item (probably because them being squeezed in between Germany and France?). The standing expression for that is
