TAKS-AC
so taks test is next week. my 7th graders are going to take it and most of them are probably going to fail. in 7th grade it doesn't really matter so i'm not really that worried honestly. i'm not going to be working at mclean next year so it really doesn't matter at all actually, i guess.
the kids have this impression that after taks, there's nothing to do. i guess they have finals and stuff but, they're basically right. school has become so driven by standardized tests it seems like spend the entire year preparing for taks so that nothing else really matters. they take the test every year in middle school so it just seems like the whole purpose of school is to prepare for taks, especially in math and english. after they're over it's just like "what now?" luckily there are going to be quite a few field trips that i'm going to get to go on with any luck.

i think after taks it's gonna be time for another cookout. i wanna get another grill so i can cook more than like 3 burgers at a time. i've been reading the selfish gene by richard dawkins. the basic premise is that all living creatures are basically just vehicles for the survival of individual genes. pretty wild.
demonoid is back. that makes me really happy. we bought a new dvd player that plays divx files off of any kind of usb connection. it should be here tomorrow. i think it's gonna be pretty sweet.
i played portal. i really wish that game was longer. it's so fucking awesome.
we've been drinking dublin dr. pepper from central market. they sell it in cans which is a lot better deal than buying it in bottles.
so our toilet's pretty fucked up. we kinda rigged it but we're gonna have to redo it sometime in teh summer probably. lame!
i read the first few issues of top 10 by alan moore and it was really good. i'm gonna have to get the rest of them. i haven't been to the comic book store in forever...
