Valentine’s Day was most likely one of the most horrendous days of the year, at least in Touya’s opinion. He usually spent much of his time avoiding the girls who were more than willing to ply him with sweets. By the end of the day he still managed to come away with a full bag as the girls had taken to just leaving them in his locker. Touya grumbled and muttered darkly about it all, but he would never throw them away. Come White Day, each girl would have received a small token and a note declining any future for them. The chocolate was usually enough to prevent them from causing a scene.

Yukito just laughed at Touya’s frustration. He had two of his own bags of sweets, but he never declined the gifts from the girls. He enjoyed them far too much to say no. In return on White Day, Yuki personally returned each gift with one of his own and declined any date requests with his dazzling smile. Touya was of the opinion that the fluffy headed girls that followed Yukito around were actually more interested in the smile they got than in any possible date. Touya knew that he would be.

Touya shook his head quickly to dispel that distracting thought. Yukito looked over at him worriedly. “Are you all right?” he asked.

“Yeah, I’ll be fine,” Touya said.

They arrived at Touya’s home before anyone else. Sakura had practice after school and was spending the night at Tomoyo’s after that. His father had run off on yet another archeological adventure and would not be back for at least two more days. It was almost convenient that they had the house to themselves. Yukito would most likely spend the evening there as he did on many of the nights that they found themselves home alone.

Touya headed into the kitchen first. “What do you feel like having for dinner?” Touya asked over his shoulder.

He looked through the cabinets briefly and tried to decide what would be easiest for them to make. The silence from the other room broke Touya from his thoughts and he turned back to the living room. “Yuki?”

Hovering over the bags of sweets (and spraying feathers everywhere) was Yue standing in Yuki’s place. Touya was surprised by the appearance of the Moon Guardian, but hid it well. He crossed his arms and arched a brow.

“Was there something that you were looking for?” Touya asked.

Yue looked up, seeming for a moment like a petulant child that had not wanted to be caught doing something. He straightened himself quickly and the faint trace of childlike warmth was replaced by the icy guardian once more. “What is this?” Yue demanded, pointing at the bags.

“They’re Valentine’s gifts,” Touya said simply.

Yue rolled his eyes. “What are Valentine’s gifts?”

“I would have thought you would know by now. This isn’t the first time that Yukito has gotten Valentine’s gifts,” Touya commented. “It’s a tradition, a holiday that is a bit over-rated if you ask me.”

“Oh?” Yue prompted.

Touya moved over to one of the bags and pulled out a box of chocolates. He tossed aside the garish red bow and opened the box to show Yue the contents. “You give sweets, usually chocolates to people to show that you like them. It’s supposed to be a way to get someone to go out with you.”

“’Go out?’” Yue asked.

“Yeah, you know. Date, relationships, love and all that fluffy stuff,” Touya grumbled.

“Ah…I see,” Yue said, turning back to the bags of chocolates. “You both must have many…dates.”

“Hardly,” Touya said shaking his head. “I never accept the dates and you should know that Yukito just wants the chocolate. The only chocolates Yukito accepts are the ones from Sakura. Those aren’t for dates anyway.”

“What are those chocolates for?” Yue asked.

“Sakura’s crazy about Yukito, but she’s already got that baka boyfriend. Sakura likes to give everyone chocolates because she cares about them,” Touya said.

Yue seemed to think on this for a few moments. “So this ‘over-rated’ holiday is actually just intended to be a time to show the people you care about that you like them under the thin veil of dating and romance.”

Touya’s eyebrows shot up at that. “Uhh…I suppose you could say that.”

Yue nodded and dug through the bags again. He paused and pulled out a small card that was attached to one of the boxes. “’I look forward to your response on…White Day?’ What is that?”

“Well, White Day is exactly one month away. The tradition is that girls give out the chocolates on Valentine’s Day and then the boys respond with their own gifts on White Day,” Touya explained.

“That seems to be a respectable exchange,” Yue said with a stiff nod. He put the box back and turned to the front door.

“Where are you going?” Touya asked, reaching out to stop Yue.

Yue shot Touya a dark look and pulled his arm away. “That is not your concern. I will return shortly,” he said before opening the door. “And Yukito has requested that you make pasta for dinner.”

The door slammed shut behind the grumpy guardian and Touya sighed. It was easy to forget why anyone could possibly like the miserable ball of feathers when he acted like that. Touya stomped back to the kitchen, muttering to himself. He admitted only one saving grace over the exchange: at least Yukito did not act like that on a regular basis.

The process of completing dinner was enough to calm Touya down. He left the pasta to cook while he went through the bags of Valentines. He piled all of the chocolate together for Yukito to pick at over the next day or two (it would hardly make it past that.) Once that was finished he separated their cards and wrote a list of all of the sweets that Yukito had received so that he would not forget how much chocolate he would need to make (not that it mattered since Touya would make it all with him anyway.)

Touya had just pulled out his textbooks to begin working on his school work when there was a knock at the door. He had a fleeting thought that it would be nice if he could still tell who was on the other side without having to look as he opened the door. Instead of a person, the first thing Touya saw was a brightly wrapped chocolate…bunny?

Touya looked around the bunny at Yue who was standing there expectantly. He still wore the serious face that he always did, but the chocolate bunny somehow ruined the effect.

“What’s this?” Touya asked.

“It’s for you,” Yue said. “Obviously.”

“What’s it for?” Touya asked, arching a brow.

“Must I spell it out for you?” Yue asked, muttering and storming into the house. “It’s for you as a Valentine’s gift.”

A small grin curled on Touya’s lips. “Are you asking me out on a date, Yue?”

Yue’s feathers fluffed up indignantly and he turned away. “Do you accept this or not?”

Touya came up behind Yue, standing close enough to whisper in his ear. “It wouldn’t be so bad if you were,” he said as he closed his hand over Yue’s and the chocolate bunny.

Yue whipped around to face Touya. He sputtered briefly, trying to find an appropriate retort, before settling on just letting Yukito respond instead. There was a brief flash of light and Yukito stood in Yue’s place, giggling madly at the Moon Guardian’s actions.

Touya grinned and looked down at the chocolate bunny. “Are you ready for dinner, Yuki?”

Yukito bobbed his head excitedly, before turning to rush into the kitchen table. Touya brought everything out to the table and took his usual seat beside Yukito. The chocolate bunny was placed beside his plate while they dug into the pasta.

Yuki paused after a moment and giggled once again. “To~ya! Yue says that for White Day he expects something that isn’t sweet,” he said.

Touya smiled at Yukito. “I’m sure I can come up with an appropriate gift in exchange,” he said.
