This is my semi-almost-regular monthly update. It will probably be really long since I'm bored and in the mood to type, so as a precaution, teh LiNk follows:
So I have surgery coming up in a week. Monday, the 31st, I get bone cut out of my jaw and screwed onto my upper gums. Sweet. Lovely. All that jazz. I am really not looking foward to this, enough so that the dumb half of my brain occasionally says, "You know, the fake teeth retainer thing isn't so bad"...before the smarter half wakes up, smacks the dumb half around, and says, "Hey, idiot, you want crappy plastic dentures for the next sixty years?" Sigh...I didn't mind the surgery in February since I was kind of unconscious and thus didn't know what sorts of lovely things they were doing to me. Not so this time. Plus, I'm going to be out of it for probably a week and a half or so afterwards, meaning lots of sitting around and watching TV shows I have on DVD.
That segues into my next topic: TV. Is it just me, or has it gotten really good compared to a few years ago? There's Lost, The O.C., 24, UFC, plus reruns of Whose Line?, Seinfeld, and Everybody Loves Raymond. I also have gotten REALLY into House just these past two weeks. I saw an episode a couple months back and found it surprisingly good, so I bought the first season on DVD. WOW. It pretty much rocks. Hugh Laurie is my new best friend. Psych is also a really good show, though not quite enough to be mentioned with the others above. Also, Whose Line? is coming to DVD soon, which is freaking awesome. Basically, when fall comes around there will be something on TV every night to distract me from my homework. You can look at my AIM profile for all the DVDs and music I'm looking foward to.
Another segue - on to the music section! I've recently gotten CDs from: Cute Is What We Aim For, Cartel, Dashboard Confessional, The Early November, The Format, Hoobastank, Thursday, and Moneen. All are at least good. Highlights include Cute Is... being a really catchy CD, and also arguably the most girly thing I've ever bought for myself, Cartel being awesome (although apparently the drummer likes the whole date rape scene, which really really sucks), The Early November's TRIPLE DISC being a solid four stars out of five, The Format being really good, though not as good as in previous albums (same for Hoobastank and Thursday), and Moneen having a song named "Don't Ever Tell Locke What He Can't Do" as a shout out to Lost. I got that CD for free by sending in the receipt from my DC cd (awesome offer), and it ended up being a lot like Further Seems Forever if FSF had done everything perfect. And the DC album - really good. It's totally different from anything they've done yet (very etheral - is that how you spell that?), and even alternative-ish at times, but great overall. And I'm seeing them in concert with Say Anything this Friday!!!! That should be awesome. Hoping to go to a Mae/New Amsterdams concert on the 25th of August if everything works out with Don and Mike. My love for Mae knows no bounds.
I finally read 1984. It was good, though it feels a little stale because it's been copied a lot since and the plot wasn't as shocking as it no doubt was in the fifties and sixties. I also read Life Of Pi, which was fantastic, and discovered Vonnegut's writing style is something I can't stand, but Rand's is something I can't get enough of (I'm reading "We The Living" right now and loving it). Too bad Indian Trails Library sucks. Maybe AH Memorial will let me use my card there. Hmm...
I'm 19 now (turned that since my last post). I feel the same. Surprise!
Pirates 2 was ridiculously entertaining. I don't think it will be quite as rewatchable as the first one (I can watch that one over and over and not get tired of it), but I loved it anyway. V for Vendetta comes out on DVD soon, as well as Lucky Number Slevin, so that's cool too. Also, Running Scared is an awesome movie.
I wrote a new piano song. I like it. I just wish Sean and I cared enough to have practices regularly, because having four songs now that we could finish if we had maybe four hours each is frustrating. Probably less - if we really worked at it, maybe two hours each. Grr.
I think that's about it. I'll probably post a "review" of the DC concert on Saturday, so any pressing thoughts I need to get out of my head can be written then. Until next time, my dears.
Bugger.
