Ich habe mir diese letzte Woche mal ein paar Prince-Alben angehört (endlich) und war ein ums andere Mal überrascht von den Perlen, die er in den Alben
hat; neben den größeren Hits.
Ein paar ungewohnt leise und bedächtige Töne gibt es z.B. auf dem 1983 erschienenen Album "1999". Prince hat mit 25 Jahren bereits solche Texte verfasst:

Der Song ist nicht so episch aufgemacht wie beispielsweise "Pride" von U2, oder "We Are The World" von USA For Africa. Aber dennoch haut die Message einfach rein wie man so schön sagt. Eine Aktualität lässt sich wohl auch nie vermeiden, besonders in Anbetracht der aktuellen Nachrichtenlage von wegen englische Soldaten in iranischer Haft....
Einen wahren Hörgenuss findet man auf der "One Night Alone...Live"-Compilation. Da gibt es den Song als 3. Teil eines kleinen Medley bestehend aus "The Beautiful Ones", "Nothing Compares 2 U" (mehr als grandios umgesetzt!!!!!), "Free" und noch 2-3 weiteren Tracks. Unglaublich berührend, anders kann ich das nicht in Worte fassen.
Je mehr ich mich mit Prince beschäftige desto mehr mag ich ihn als Künstler. Hätte ich vor einem Jahr noch nie und nimmer für möglich gehalten. Wieder mal ein Beispiel von "Prejudice is Ignorance".
