Massive Attack - Collected

Trip-Hop pioneers Massive Attack (formed 1990) released a best of collection entitled "Collected" last week. Finally! - And actually amazing that they did without it for so long considering that albums such as "Blue Lines" (1991), "Protection" (1994) and "Mezzanine" (1998) EACH have a bunch of stunning songs already. Having had a major influence into the genre, you'll find such essential tracks like "Safe from harm", "Karmacoma" or "Unfinished sympathy" gathered here. Those songs made dance music accessible to living rooms, so to speak. The two greatest songs by Massive Attack tho still will be "Protection" (vocals sung by the beautiful voice of Tracy Thorn/Everything But The Girl) and "Teardrop", the genious collaboration with Elizabeth Fraser of the Cocteau Twins - you definitely should know them.
Moreover, you can see the varitey of their music with "Future proof" or "Butterfly caught" (from 2003's "1000th window") which have a darker approach and are less accessible to the normal radio listener. A little gem might be "What your soul sings" as it feautres Sinéad O'Connor on vocals.
Bonus is the brand new song and current single "Live with me", a mix of Trip-hop and Soul, featuring the voice of Terry Callier.
What I especially like is that the songs are all the (longer) album versions.
Conclusion: A must have CD for people who wanna check out what Trip-Hop is all about.

Fans might find the Limited Edition interesting which has an additional CD (with B-Sides and previously unreleased tracks) and DVD (contains all their music videos).
