My kind of town!
Tuesday was our anniversary, and after work we went downtown to a little restaurant we have adopted named Caffe Mingo. Their specialty is penne al sugo di carne, nicknamed "the sugo" which is penne topped with beef braised in espresso and chianti. This dish deserves its own album of love songs. But this story is not about the sugo.
On our way to dinner, I mentioned a new place named Cupcake Jones that I had heard of recently. We looked them up on my Treo and gave them a buzz to see if they were open. After I dialed, I remembered that I was nearly mute, so Ben had to do the talking. When asked when they closed, they replied "8ish". It was 7:45, so we headed over.
As we walk up to the door of the place, their hours are posted on the door as "10-8ish" In we walk and see their cupcake specials. They have three regular concoctions, two specials of the day, and a baker's choice. All looked delicious. We asked them if they could substitute cream cheese icing on one of them and then got to talking about flavor combinations and all manner of other things. It came out that we were out for the evening celebrating our 2nd anniversary and they liked our flavor combination enough to make it Thursday’s baker’s choice cupcake, and they named it after us! Yesterday we went back to get some and they took our picture.
We have been honored through extremely yummy cupcakes. Is there really any better way?
