The Update dialog box sprang open again this morning.
Apple still wants me to update iTunes so it can't take advantage of the iPhone I do not own, and will not own any time in the foreseeable future because AT&T's service in the general area I live in is rock-bottom bad.
Apple would also like me to install the "WebObjects DST Update". This, to quote apple directly, updates WebObjects 5.3 systems to observe the Daylight Saving Time (DST) and 2007 time zone changes as of January 8, 2007.
OK, first of all, I live in Tempe, AZ, not Phoenix, NY. We do not use Daylight Savings Time here, and we never will because it is extremely wasteful of electricity - most fans use more electricity than a very bright fluorescent bulb, not to mention how much electricity air conditioners use.
Second of all, I know that the time people switch to DST got bumped up recently, and I am so glad it doesn't effect me, but January 8? Isn't that a little excessive? Hell, winter only starts in the 2nd half of December!
Thirdly, if I install this digital turd that threatens to enable DST at a bizarre time in the middle of winter, it will require restarting the computer. Because, you know, daylight savings time is a serious low-level driver issue that cannot be addressed while power flows thru any of the peripherals, lest a short-circuit be accidently caused, the likes of which haven't been seen since Doc Brown invented the flux capacitor...
I will install that X11 update tho.
Curiouser and curiouser...
