Lunch Box 262: The Revenge of The Turkey

Dec 01, 2006 20:37

The Thanksgiving turkey is still with me, albeit cleverly hidden. This meal contains some Thanksgiving aftermath stew, with turkey and peas and corn and celery and carrots and beans and scallions and lotus root. Well, it's part of the stew, anyway; I siphoned off the liquid through a straw so it wouldn't slosh all over the inside of my bento box. Next to it is a "sandbox" of couscous made with broth from the aforementioned stew. Then there's the old faithful edamame, which you can tell I just pulled out of the freezer, and peanut mochi balls. Those last items are storebought frozen rice dough balls with filling, and you drop them into boiling water until they float. In fact, they're pretty much the same as palitaw, but with something in the center. And, like palitaw, they're terrifically sticky-gooey when you take them out of the water. I think the next time I make them I'm going to finish them up by rolling them either in coconut (also like palitaw) or katakuriko (like daifuku).
