I was about to do a “most anticipated comics” post and then realised that I haven’t even done my wrap-up post for last month! I’m always late, but I think this is the first year I’m skipping my year-end wrap-up (not counting the hiatus years.)

Anyway, my favourite read last December was G. Willow Wilson’s The Bird King, which is also the best fantasy I read last year (might as well say that here, since I won’t be doing the year-end post.) The first couple of chapters took me awhile to get through, not because they weren’t awesome (they were), but because they mostly read like historical fiction and it just takes me ages to read historical fiction. But the moment the magic bits kicked in, I was speeding through the book and writing down quotes and finishing it thinking I WANT MORE. I wish that G. Willow Wilson would write MG/YA fantasy one day (or a Ms. Marvel novelisation!) but in the meantime I have her Ms. Marvel and Wonder Woman comics to look forward to every month, and around the time her Ms. Marvel run ends there will be Invisible Kingdom, which is one of my most anticipated comics this year, of course.

(All the novels I read in December were excellent, though, and I really should find the time to rave about them all one of these days!)

I also reread Rainbow Rowell & Kris Anka (and Matt Wilson)’s Runaways and I don’t know why all her YA fans that I know aren’t reading it or raving about it because I absolutely love this series and think she’s doing an awesome job, also THANK YOU RAINBOW FOR NICO/KAROLINA ❤ Also Kris Anka’s art is amazing and I love Matt Wilson’s colours so there’s absolutely no reason not to read Runaways.

crossposted, rainbow rowell, what i'm reading, monthly books, reading round-up, g. willow wilson
