This post is waaaaaay overdue, and it’s mainly because of (1) being busy at work, and (2) lots of major upheavals in my fandom life. (I also maintain a separate blog about watching Arashi’s tv shows, so when I’m not updating here, I’m probably posting over there.) Anyway, I felt like I didn’t read much in January, but 7 books is not too bad? Even if four of the seven are novellas. Plus ten comic trades/graphic novels.
My favourite reads last month were Seanan McGuire’s Wayward Children books, because they’re one of my favourite currently running series and the latest book In An Absent Dream is the best one yet. I’ve a feeling that it’ll be my favourite in the series, too, because I related to Lundy and her world more than any of the others.
I’ve also been loving both Rainbow Rowell’s Runaways series, and Sam Humphries & Jen Bartel’s Blackbird, which reminds me a lot of Kieron Gillen & Jamie McKelvie (& Matt Wilson)’s The Wicked + The Divine. And while I’m usually more critical of BL manga these days, I Hear the Sunspot is beautiful - I love that the book focuses on friendship and the characters’ individual growth over the romance.
