So, been busy. Lots of days out and good times!!
Been to see two comedians, Jimmy Carr and Lee Evans. Funnily enough both were birthday presents. I took Carly to Jimmy Carr in Peterborough. He was very entertaining and very quick and witty when it came to dealing with idiots in the audience. It was also nice to spend some time wit Carly and catch up on the last few months. We both work and have busy lives, so our time together hanging is always nice. I very recently traveled to Birmingham with my Dad for his birthday (which was January!) trip to see Lee Evans. The NIA was massive, easily over 10k in there. Maybe over 20k! The show was about 3 hours with a short break and I have to admit I have never laughed or cried so hard in my life. My cheeks and eyes hurt. It was so funny and I don't think anyone could top it for sheer brilliant humor. Very topical and very relevant, quite a lot of stuff hit home. Well worth the wait. The best part was my Dad had a fantastic time. I couldn't have asked for more.
Also had two very cool gigs. First was a mid week gig with a mixed rabble of people. Carly, Laura and Will were there, plus a few of Carly's friends. First up were the band I went to see, Sonic Syndicate. I missed the first song and a bit due to the Astoria's stupid habit of starting the show 15 minutes after the doors open. Anyways, it was a good fast set. They stuck with material from Only Inhuman, plus the singles from the first album and the new one. Shame there wasn't a better mix, but they keep getting the first half hour sets. I did actually bump into one of the singers after the show and he said there was going to be a tour in February. Fingers crossed that it's longer set! Next up was Gojira. I retired to the balcony. I prefer having a view over being close nowadays. Plus I was tired as hell. Anyway, very heavy and technically brilliant band. I spent most of the time watching the drummer. Good set but it seemed to get a little repetative after a while. Headliners In Flames took bloody ages to come on. By that time I was actually asleep. They started the set as silhouettes behind a curtain which was pretty damn cool. Not being a hardcore fan a lot of the songs were lost on me, so after a good chunk of the set I retired outside to get some air and a cookie. We all reunited and bundled onto the train home. I spent the hour home talking to Laura. It made me realise it'd been far, far to long since we'd last spoke properly. Ever since I met Laura conversations have always been rich and easy. We just clicked into the same fashion we'd always had. She's got a very similiar mindstate when it comes to talking and words in general. I love catching with friends, but the repore I have with Laura is different. (She probably thinks I'm just weird!)
Next show involved a weekend in London with Will and Tom. It's always a great laugh when the 3 of us hang out. We managed to meet people in the same hotel going to the same gig, so we got a mega cheap taxi to Brixton. First band were Shinedown. Both me and Tom are huge fans so we went right down to the front. Was a fantastic set full of new material. Was very enjoyable and even better than the first time we saw them. I managed to catch a guitar pick too. We also managed to make friends with people in the crowd, one of which I meeting up with cause we're both going to see Soilwork solo. I chanced staying near the front for Disturbed. Since Brixton has bars at various places I thought the crush might not be so bad. But after half an hour of being hit in the lower back repeatedly and getting an armpit pushed in my face every 5 minutes I retired to the back. Disturbed have always been a favourite of mine, and with four albums worth of material they put on a great show. Once my back felt better I moshed a bit (not in a pit mind) and enjoyed the energy. It was a very social night and to be honest I wished all the gigs I went to were like that.
While I'm here I wanna write about another very enjoyable night out with Tay. After randomly deciding to walk from my work to hers (which is four miles, plus) we went to a bar with a couple of her work mates for a quick drink. That quick drink turned into many drinks and shots. Anyway, the bar had Kareoke on that night.. Guess what I ended up doing? I opened te book up and saw 3 Doors Down - Kryptonite. So I was straight up there doing that. I like that song and can actually sing it ok. As the night went on I got bolder (drunker) and put my name down for Santana's smooth. Lets just say I livened the place up and embarressed Tay in the process. But I tell you this, it was so much fun dancing around singing my heart out. I had strangers congratulating me!! The night was so much fun and I don't think I've been that happy drunk in a long time. I feel comfortable drinking around Tay. I don't feel I need to be in absolute control or be the responsible one, so I can let loose and have fun. Good times.
