i need to make an entry for my back-tack person so they can learn my "secret craft yearning" and make me a kit. i've procrastinated doing so because it's supposed to be something you've always wanted to try but haven't had the time. i don't have a problem trying new things; what i usually do is get all the stuff, make a half-assed first attempt, and then put it away for a while (i take after my mom). so i actually have supplies for most of my "i wish i had time to do that" crafts... i guess what i really need is inspiration to finish something.

so, here are some of the things i'd rather be doing with my time, say, right now.

1. embroidery: i have this kit and some of the sublime stitching patterns but i need inspiration to use them. maybe a quilty sort of thing like this martha project (quilting is another thing i want to do more of, but i have a bunch of started projects in that department already). i'm also really interested in some blackwork with my renaissance costuming stuff; this blows me away.

2. boudoir dolls: i think it was blastmilk that got me thinking about boudoir dolls a while back and i love some of the patterns (except i promise to stay away from pierrot dolls):

also there is an amazing japanese book with patterns for dolls like this (i have the ISBN written down somewhere and i will be buying the book for myself for xmas for sure)

as much as i love blythe and vintage barbie and those kind of plastic fashion dolls, i was never a fan of any other kinds of dolls. but i like some of the boudoir dolls, mostly the flapper, marie antoinette, and storybook sort of genres (the flapper ones are a bit mod in a biba sort of way, and the others appeal to my costuming thing) and since they seem to have a simple body, it's all about rushing through the boring parts and getting to the good stuff (the clothes). plus the cloth ones don't creep me out as much as the ones with composition heads. i would like to make them with simpler features, maybe more like mizna illustrations.)

3. pincushions: there are too many options so anytime i think "i am going to make pincushions" i start rifling through my ribbons and fabric and buttons and felt and end up some combination of frustrated and distracted. so a kit of materials to specifically make into a pincushion might be useful? pincushion inspirations for me include the ones here (omg the house) and here (please remind me to take a photo of the cute wee i got from hillaryweewonderfuls a while back).

ok back to work. i wanted to post about renegade progress but it will have to wait...
