I took the tram back home yesterday, completely forgetting that I went to the station by bike :P Yeah, I have to pick that up sometime then.
While I was waiting for the tram, two teenage boys were playing around, kicking and hitting each other, spitting and just generally being obnoxious. It was quite crowded, and other people rolled their eyes at them and moved away.
At some point one of them was just standing, kind of dancing on his feet in a bored manner and accidentally stepped on the foot of an older man who was passing by behind him. At this point I, too, wanted to roll my eyes, but instead of ignoring the accident, or telling the man to fuck off, the boy gave the man an apologetic look and said, "I'm sorry, sir,"
The man put up his thumb and smiled a nearly toothless smile from under a large moustache. "No matter, it doesn't matter at all," he said expressly, then continued on his way.
The boy turned back to his mate and took on his 'normal' attitude. "See, at least this one was nice," he said, as if he somehow had to explain his respectful behaviour. There was an awkward silence, and there was of course only one natural way for him to break it. "If it had been you however..." He jumped for his friend and they started fooling around again, in exactly the same manner as three minutes before. But I no longer felt the need to roll my eyes: instead I was silently happy.
