Then you have to think long and hard about it. Would it be worth cutting all ties with someone? Especially if it's someone you're close to. Or would it just be a slight parting of ways, and the two of you stay friends.

Personally, I don't think I would. When you do what I do for a living, you learn that every person you are close to is precious, and you can loose them far too easily to just cut them out of your life, no matter what they've done.

I don't know anymore. She was close, once, but now she's hurt so many people and, rocked in the poison cradle of her own ego, she's not even aware that other people can hurt. I'm tired of being rebuffed for trying to protect her. I don't know if she's worth it anymore.

The best option I can think of is to maintain a purely professional relationship, but I don't think I can trust her to honor it.

I see. Well, perhaps a trial run, first. Let her hit some walls without you, and learn that she has to deal with consequences, painful as they are sometimes. Tough love works, too, when nothing else does.
